I tried that Intel GVT-g and got it working. It's some pretty cool shit being able to use the same GPU simultaneously for the host and multiple VMs, like e.g. I had both a Linux VM and Windows 10 VM, with full 3D-acceleration, working Quick Sync and all without taking anything away from the host. I really, really wish NVIDIA and AMD also allowed vGPUs on their consumer-grade products.

I often seem to end up doing things in a rather complicated manner, just to try things out. At the moment, I've got an iSCSI-target (ie. a virtual storage-device using SCSI over TCP/IP) configured on my server, Ubuntu 20.04 Fecal Fossil installed on it that I boot into via a custom iPXE-build over the network and I am just in the process of configuring a VM on this network-booted Ubuntu in order to try Intel GVT-g...

Some observations of the OnePlus 8 Pro, now that I've spent several days with it:

    The good:
I really, really like the macro-camera mode The display is gorgeous, at least when I'm used to the OnePlus 3T's display I actually like the video motion-interpolation feature. I don't understand what people mean with "soap-opera look", but I, for one, consider high framerate-video a positive thing. It's fast. Wireless charging is handy. The neutral/irrelevant:
Wireless charging is a tad fiddly, since you gotta position it at apparently a sub-millimeter accuracy for it to work. That said, I assume I'll just get used to getting it right on the first go over time, so I consider the fiddliness a neutral thing from my POV. 120Hz-mode. I mean....there are a few situations where the animations are ever so slightly smoother, but, well, for 99.99% of time, it just doesn't make a lick of a difference. I'm sticking to 60Hz, because it consumes less battery and 120Hz-mode is just pointless. (If this is what high-refresh rate is like, I don't see the point in computer-displays, either!) The punch-hole camera. I know a lot of people have been really vocally hating it, but I just don't care. It took me just a few minutes to get so used to it that I don't even notice it anymore and since it's all the way up there, it never gets in the way of anything. This is to say, I just don't see the problem. The ugly:
Curved display. Such a stupid gimmick. Glass back. I still retain my opinion that they should go with soft-touch, self-healing plastic, instead. Android OS. I mean, the OS is okay to use and all, but it'll stop receiving updates again in 3 years and that's just downright fucking shit. I fucking DESPISE this shit.

My hubby and I got our fancy, new Oneplus 8 Pros a couple of days back and I quite like the phone. The display is impressive, when I'm used to Oneplus 3T's display, but more importantly, I can get some rather reasonable macro-shots out of the phone's camera. I am blind as a bat and I just can't read small text anymore or see markings on SMD-components, so I will definite have use for the macro-mode.

This picture below is one of those miniature Bluetooth-dongles and you can clearly see all the individual pokes of the metal-carving needle! That's not bad for a phone-camera, and it's not even a real macro-lens!

Today I learned that my PS4 Pro is shit. My ethernet-cable stopped working for some reason and I haven't been feeling like taking it out, making a new one and replacing the broken one, so I decided to set up WiFi. Alas, no matter what I do, the PS4 just won't connect to my 5GHz WiFi and to make matters worse, if I try enough times or leave the settings on so that it'd keep trying to connect to 5GHz WiFi, the DS4 - controller will stop working! The only way of getting the controller to work is to go through the recovery - menu on the PS4 and reset all settings, so it won't bring the WiFi up at boot!

There's a new article on Ars Technica about Geforce Now and in the comments some people were whining about how terrible game-streaming is and that all the latency and terrible image-quality make it a complete non-starter and all. From what I can tell, these people have never actually tried the service or anything and just hate the idea of game-streaming and thus resort to bashing it.

Anyways, in relation to the discussion, I recorded myself playing the first level of DOOM 2016 on Geforce Now and uploaded it on Youtube, so if anyone is curious about how such a fast-paced shooter works when streamed, feel free to take a look at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d5Zl_VIStmg
