I live in an old building where they did use sawdust and filings as insulation-material in the walls, roof and floors! Such a nuisance, really. Over the past 50 years, it's all sagged down and only fills like 2/3 of the space it's supposed to fill, meaning the house isn't particularly warm!

Instead of wasting money on any pads or such, I would recommend buying a concrete stepping stone and putting the printer on it. You'd be surprised by how much it actually helps with noise.

WereCatf got a reaction from WikiForce in Question for people who block youtube ads and dont support the creators you watch in
I block ads because they are fricking annoying and because they are one of the most common ways of distributing malware. As for why I don't support creators in other ways: I'm not made out of money. What little I have, I will use on myself.

@LeventI find it's more reliable to upload the gcode to the SD-card. I've had multiple times the print go bad with Octoprint crashing or disconnecting or otherwise bugging mid-print, but if I use Octoprint to upload the code to the SD-card and just use Octoprint to monitor the printer and init the print, the printer will handle the actual printing from the card all on its own.

@LeventBecause the printer is upstairs, I'm downstairs, and I don't want to do the upstairs-downstairs-upstairs-downstairs song-and-dance every time I want to upload a new print.

WereCatf got a reaction from Letgomyleghoe in There don't seem to be particularly many people here who are into actual hobby electr
@LetgomyleghoeWell, okay. MCUs are good for all sorts of sensors, driving motors and in general tasks where you want millisecond or even microseconds response-times to events. MCUs are all about very tight control over every aspect of the software running on it and doing it extremely efficiently. SoCs in devices like Raspberry Pis are really more for running more complex software, like e.g. routers, media-players, low-end laptops.

Just as a quick example, I have a small sensor in the basement monitoring temperature and humidity and reporting the values over a long-range, low-speed radio-system called LoRa. The sensor spends extremely little time in collecting the info it needs and sending it off, before going to sleep, and thus it last about 1.5 years on a single charge of its battery. With an RPi Zero or something, I'd maybe get a week of runtime doing the same thing.

@WaggishOhio383I suppose I'm the odd duck here, since I haven't actually learned much from these forums 😅 I'm like a vacuum; I just hoard all sorts of random tech-relation information from all sources, even if the likelihood of me ever having any use for it was practically NIL, and I'm here on the forums more to dish some of it out at others and for personal entertainment than to learn or seek help myself.

That said, yes, even I have made several dumb-dumbs here and I do not doubt at all that I will make PLENTY more in the years to come. I can be quite the bellend at times 😅

Just as a note: people often say I am an asshole or something and I know I have a tendency of coming on rather rough, but I don't mean anything personal with it. It's just an Asperger's - thing: I am direct and I don't much sugarcoat things. If I ever say something to you that makes you feel insulted, just try to remember that I most likely did not mean it that way.
