SlidewaysZ got a reaction from JAKEBAB in Sweden preparing new IP law to put pressure on actors like Facebook
I absolutely hate social media but this is absolutely insane. I hope Facebook keeps up the pressure and the governments have to cave on this stupid idea. Charging for news per link is not a good idea. Do you know what that will do to news companies. Not to mention why does the government think that tech companies should be paying for the privilege to give the news companies clicks and views? That's the most backwards thing.

This so dumb, why should anyone pay for linking to a site which is basically free advertisement for them....

SlidewaysZ reacted to Stahlmann in Canada to follow Australia's lead in taxing Facebook for news links, gov't says they won't be intimidated by Facebook's threats
I still don't really get it. Why should google pay news sites to have their links come up in the search results? Google is the reason for the majority of their traffic to begin with. Could google not just blacklist news sites so they don't come up? Can someone explain to me why this would make any sense? Sounds to me like the news sites "biting the hand that's feeing them".

I doubt that was a point about how popular denuvo is or isn't and one about how garbage that it is and it running on Linux is therefore a step backwards.

Nope. Sony has patents on the actual shape of those side panels. It’ll be an easy win if the sue.

Why. Just why. The warning has been out for three and a half years. That's plenty of time to upgrade your forms!

As it happens, ceasing the trading on those stocks was something that had to happen to protect the marker from collapsing entirely.

1 hedge fund more stock than they owned, Reddit inflated the price to stick it to the hedge fund, the stock clearing house was then on the line for all the money (in Cash BTW) which has to be held for 48hrs meaning the stock clearing house couldn't afford to cover all the trades that were happening (since Melvin Capitol sold more stocks than were available). If the stock clearing house cannot cover the money for the trades then they either stop trading those shares or risk going into insolvency (you might think that's far fetched but remember, we're talking about 100s of billions of dollars here) and no stock clearing house means total market collapse.

They weren't protecting the hedgefunds, they were trying to stop the company that handles 95% of all the trades on the US market from not having enough money available to cover the trades and possibly going bust in the process.

The reason you could still sell but not buy is because, when you sell the clearing house is not on the line for any money, they just send the piece of paper (yeah its not done that way anymore) to the buyer.

In this case its not Robinhood bad, or government/financial sector bad, they're simply doing what they've been told to do by the people who handle the trades behind the scenes. In this case its Melvin Capitol bad for creating a 40% deficit in Gamestop stock by selling 140% of the stock they should have sold. That extra 40% stock has to be paid for by someone and in the short term that someone is the clearing house.

What should happen here is Melvin Capitol should be forced into insolvency and the owner should be personally on the line for all the stocks he sold without having the right to sell them in the first place.

SlidewaysZ reacted to Commodus in TSMC to prioritise production of chips for cars, not your next graphics card
I've noticed this a lot in tech enthusiast communities — this tendency to not only see PC gaming as important, but to believe it's so important that the entire industry revolves around it. My theory is that these are younger people who are used to the world feeling like it revolves around them, and slowly learning that it doesn't.
