PenguinMaster got a reaction from Falcon1986 in KVM Extension Cables
I tried using regular VGA cables with a coupler, and no luck. Yes, one end needs to be female, and the other end male.
Good idea, I will look for compatible cables.
All 15-pins on the KVM are in use because 9 of the pins are used for video 4 are used for usb and the other two are used for audio.

I just emailed them, that is a really good idea.

Then ask the question again when they do because as of now you aren't getting anything decent for your budget.

Also just some general advice get a mesh front case those will allow for just massively better airflow compared to a closed front case with some small (even big vents don't do much) vents on the side of the front panel.

Also with a psu it's quality over anything else. The evga br series are crap and just die when they need to run too long at their rated wattage.

Simply put how the market is right now you aren't getting a decent system for under 700$. You could get a nice gaming pc last year in march for 500$ but those same systems are now well over 700$

PenguinMaster got a reaction from the gamer that is bad in Optimal Settings for a FreeNAS Server
I recently got a good deal on an HPE ProLiant DL380 G9 Server, and was wondering what the best settings for FreeNAS would be.

The specs of the server are:
    2x 6 Core E5-2620v3 2.4GHz
    32GB RAM
    10GbE NIC
    Redundant 800w Power Supplies
    12x WD 500GB HDD (WDC WD5000AAKX-60U6AA0)
1x Intel 100GB SSD as boot and cache drive since I read from STH that a USB install isn't recommended.

If your wondering why the AAKX Drives its because I got them all for free from my work as "spares" that were no longer needed.

How should I set up the drives in FreeNAS? What RAID settings should I use. I see many different people are torn on what the best settings are. I have a second server that will make a copy of this one every day so redundancy isn't as big a priority as speed and capacity. All feedback is appreciated.

    Why this one?
Case has airflow so your system won't overheat
    Board isn't garbage
Ram can only run at 2666mhz speed and this is the cheapest 16gb kit out there right now
Psu isn't a know psu that fails/kills components.

It's because 3Gbps is total of both TX/RX capability, so 1500Mbps in each direction. They could be helpful and say 3Gbps half-duplex but that wouldn't look nice on marketing material.

I would try to restart chrome first by killing it with task manager. If that doesn't work, try a system restart. If neither of those work I would just try to update chrome first or re-install it.

Edit: Make sure your passwords are saved before you re-install chrome! you can export them as a csv file in chrome settings.

Its my understanding Ubiquity are bargain budget built, even within the budget end of the business hardware market.  I'm thinking of going to Zyxel for WiFi 6e as I hate the Unifi software and how Ubiquity firmware always seem to be full of bugs at launch.

My nanoHD seems to be getting slower and slower with each new firmware update with no indication of it being crosstalk related.

I certainly wont be touching anything without a 2.5Gbit port.

Oops, I was thinking about the 3600 not the 2600. I think that you will have some problems with the 2600. I would recommend selling that and getting at least a 3600 if your motherboard supports it for that GPU. Otherwise, maybe when RTX 20 series are a reasonable price again, consider picking up a 2060.

My first thought: it's dying. If the problem progressively gets worse, its definitely on its way out. Your card doesnt seem too terribly old though so it might be something else. Do you have the latest nvidia drivers installed?

Following up on SlashedM's suggestion, if you right click on the drive and select properties and then security does it show a check mark next to "write"?

PenguinMaster reacted to SlashedM in HDD locked after recovering files
The disk is probably set to read only because of the Disk Drill software, to prevent over writing the recovered files, unless the software fully wrote the partition table and such.

well your pretty unlikely to hit more than 1gbe on most wifi uses anyways, and 2.5gbe switches are pretty rare, so its not a huge factor.

There just calining the max combined phy rate on 5ghz is 3gbit, and thats true, but your never hitting 3gbit on wifi.

PenguinMaster reacted to Falcon1986 in Ubiquiti Access Points - False Advertising?
This advertising isn't unique to Ubiquiti. All manufacturers do this in some way to entice the uninformed buyer. However, at least Ubiquiti goes a step further to actually say that it is aggregate speed.

That being said, they should probably clarify that speed as being an aggregate between clients on different bands at optimal settings wirelessly connected to that particular AP.

An AP will never reach its full speed as per specification in real world application, but it can generally at least reach half of that. I know this is an oversimplification, but 50% of 3000 is better than 50% of 1000.

As for the speed of the NIC, I don't think this is the only WiFi 6 AP we're going to see from them. They are competing with other manufacturers with better specifications on paper and WiFi 6E is starting to pop up, so I'd expect there to be multi-gig support for the uplink NIC coming soon.
