but can you understand that those terms can hurt people still? and that not using them is better? for example, using "main" and "secondary" as a replacement for the terms you mentioned is just as easy (if not easier) to understand.

i literally have my pronouns in my signature... and my discord username... and anywhere else i can.

like, you probably have never seen my profile before and won't know this, but i'm a trans woman. you probably have no idea what that's like, but lemme give you an idea. if only one person uses he/him for me or something similar, it's gonna ruin my day. that's why i'm particularly sensitive to this...
    and that's literally 1984 because.....?

uh yea sure, i love all the right wingers who go out of their way to call any trans person they meet by the wrong pronouns just to ruin their day and offend them. get a reality check.

words can absolutely harm you. if you get called an ugly worthless heap of garbage every day of your life that's gonna leave a mark on you.

i'm not talking about prosecution, i'm talking about not caring for others and just being an asshole in general.

i get offended if it's used to refer to me personally. for obvious reasons.

that's the same as saying "i really don't see how people dying if i hit them with my car is my problem, i'm not dead".

that's not what this is about. gender neutral language is for one more inclusive which is good, but for 2 it's also simpler in a lot of cases.

it's simply suggesting words. spell check applications have done this for decades.

Libreoffice has spell check built into it, it's just as advanced in this regard as Google's software.

uh autocorrect and spell check has existed for decades 🤣

these are suggestions. it's the same with the autocorrect on your phone. it suggests words it doesn't make you use them.

your phone's autocorrect doesn't suggest the word dumbass does it? that doesn't make it an unacceptable word to use.

out of everything these big companies do, this is what you pull the 1984 card out for?

Similar to Twitter's block. if i block someone i don't want them to be able to view my profile or any of my posts (maybe except one's that are marked as solution to topics as i can see the use there, but i'd like replies to be blocked for those too).

It's a bit more complicated than that.
The Linux environment runs in a container, not a full VM (using LXC to be more precise). So it is not as taxing as running a full Debian VM.

So it doesn't have anywhere near the performance penalty of a VM, but you still get a lot of the benefits (such as being able to limit both hardware and software usage and permissions).

i understand Craig's point perfectly. his point was that if you allow software installs from a number of places compared to jsut the app store like iOS, you get a much higher chance of malware. these are simple facts, i don't understand why you are confused about it @WolframaticAlpha

you can actually enable an "ios" mode on macOS kinda. this button is in the settings:

and if you only allow from app store, then the OS will refuse to execute any app that wasn't installed from there. however since the Mac App Store is kinda like Windows's store at the moment in that it doesn't have a lot of common software people install, almost nobody uses this feature. however, if you want more security, it is available in macOS.

no, the "linux app support" in chromeOS is in fact a Debian virtual machine.

the thing Apple took the FBI to court over was building in backdoors which they didn't want to do. if the data in question is viewable by Apple and the FBI requests it, they can hand it over in compliance without building in backdoors into their software.
