do you have any spare 2.5" HDDs or SSDs you could try? Otherwise try installing windows or linux onto an external drive using another PC and see if the laptop works off the USB... if it does then the HDD is likely bad

Get R5 instead of i5, also worth looking at the 580 instead.

I've had my share of issues with the Windows control panel, especially with the creators update. Rather use the Nvidia/Amd panel.

Just open your Nvidia or AMD graphics card panel and set the refresh rate there.

Ashley MLP Fangirl got a reaction from Shiv78 in Windows 10 EXTREMELY Slow. Help!
yes, but if your hdd was already slightly damaged, the stress on the drive from use (windows installing updates and crap) for example, could push it over the edge and make it break...

use ubuntu Mate. by default it won't look like windows, but if you go into the Mate tweak tool, and set the style to redmond, it will.

don't use kubuntu or ubuntu GNOME, those are really heavy on resources, and a netbook won't run it very well.

Ashley MLP Fangirl got a reaction from _StrikE_ in Recommend me a linux distro with decent hardware support please
in my experience, arch linux has the best hardware compatibility, mainly because it uses a newer kernel than ubuntu...

arch linux however is designed for people with a bit of linux experience. if you are scared of the terminal, don't use it.

if you don't know how to install it, you could use something like arch-anywhere, but even that is not beginner friendly..

actually, on manjaro the wifi on my laptop and the power management for the gpu in it don't work. i don't know why, but for me manjaro has the worst hardware support ever. i think they edit the kernel a bit or something.

You might need to apply more thermal paste, my brother had to do that with his Alienware (it has an i7 in it). It might be worth a look because he said the temps were insane before he replaced it and afterwards the temps dropped significantly even at full load.

Ashley MLP Fangirl reacted to raxbg in issues with spotify on wine
I don't know what kind of issues you are having building from AUR, but I only had to manually verify 2 GPG keys and everything went smoothly onwards. The commands I used were:

gpg --recv--key 5CC908FDB71E12C2 (this one took about 20 seconds)
    gpg --lsign 5CC908FDB71E12C2
    gpg --recv--key D9C4D26D0E604491
    gpg --lsign D9C4D26D0E604491

Run them and try building spotify from AUR again
