Macbooks Airs are outdated garbage. The screens haven't been updated since they've been released, which has been a LONG TIME.  They're impossible to fix yourself, they don't have the same aesthetic as the rest of the Macbooks, and they aren't useful for anything except typing out documents and such.

    Get an XPS.

Alienware is essentially Dell, but your unit is only 1920x1080 and has some pretty icky-large bezels for what I would imagine a 2018 machine should look like. Just in my opinion.

I'm not sure why you oppose using Dell, but they really have nice laptops that fit your needs except for the GPU. They are using the latest 6C processors, and now the use of a 1050 Ti in a business "ultrabook" like. It's not a 1060, but it's damm impressive considering they have a 1050 Ti in a ultrabook. The key here is that they still look business professional like, with somewhat the performance for gaming. The only part I see lacking is the GPU and brand name, otherwise it meets all of your requirements of look, battery life, display, ram, storage. There's the option of having a 4K touch IPS display.

I'd still wait for reviews of the laptop, It was only just announced and pre-orders are starting on the 16th.

Do you use Groove to listen to music? If so, check your settings and make sure these two are disabled:

I had them enabled and while they didn't work for most of my Japanese, Chinese, and Korean playlists, the moment I decided to listen to some Phil Collins, I was greeted to his face the following morning when I turned on my laptop in a coffee shop. Yep, this is a thing.

If you're looking for a laptop with good battery life, avoid one with a G-Sync panel. G-Sync prevents the discrete GPU from turning off, which results in worse battery life.

Pretty sure it's just particle board or plywood which both would be good as they are solid core and can take a lot of weight compared to the hollow cardboard desks of Ikea.

DeWat4 got a reaction from Tracer in What's the general opinion on Alienware
Their new laptops are pretty reasonably priced IMO, but their desktops are not.  My 15 R3 (bought for $2k at the time but now you can get a very similar config for <$1500) has the 99Whr battery, which was CRUCIAL in my choice of gaming laptop.  I get 8 hours of battery with all of the battery saving settings on.   They have best in class battery life for the 15", which was really the only reason I got an Alienware. If it wasn't going to leave my desk, I would have gotten something faster.

    1) Customer service is great. I have the top of the line warranty and when I sent it in to get a popping noise in the hinge resolved, they over-nighted it to their facility and back. They'll even send someone to your house or give you a replacement if need be. I heard that you can have a repair technician sent to your home for a repaste, and you can have them use something other than Dell's toothpaste, but YMMV.

    2) Definitely. Some of my friends have Asus gaming machines and they just feel cheaper overall to use compared to my Alienware. Alienware spends millions on R&D just for their machines, and it shows for the most part. Their heatsink design was idiotic, but they've remedied that from what I've heard.

    3) IMO No. They've dropped the prices on their laptops significantly. I payed $2,000 for my 6700HQ-1060 6Gb laptop back when they first came out in October of 2016, which in hindsight was way too much, but they were the only ones offering good battery life in a gaming laptop. Their desktops are most definitely overpriced though, even when compared to other companies like Asus or CyberPower.

    4) They're definitely better at laptops and monitors than desktops.

    5) Yeah. Every company has. Their Alienware Alpha SFF desktops are STUPIDLY overpriced. You pay $699 for an i3 and 960 4Gb machine.

    6) Yeah. When Alienware was first starting to become popular, they basically sold modified Clevo laptops.  I would say that their lineup and overall experience has improved tenfold now that Dell owns Alienware.

Sure you could find something for a couple hundred bucks less but it won't have the same build quality or Dell support. No where near 2X or 4X the price of competition

DeWat4 got a reaction from Tarun10 in Can my graphics card handle better games?
The 950M is not a very powerful card by most standards. It's pretty good for 720p games and some at 1080p. The i7-6500U is a mobile 15W dual core processor, which is really meant for doing basic tasks, like browsing the web. Your internals aren't really meant for gaming.

Also-are you running your games at 4K? If you are, try turning down the resolution for better performance.  You can probably play SOME games, but probably at around 720p or even lower. I know the 950M can play PUBG at 720p at very low settings and get around 60 FPS.  If I were you, I wouldn't buy AAA titles that are seriously graphically demanding. Also, before you buy a game, look up benchmarks for that game on a system with a 950M.

Thinner and lighter Alienware 15 R3 with the XPS 15 4K screen, a full 1080 (MXM of course), a 7820HK, 32 GB of RAM, a 2 TB Samsung M.2 SSD, and the 99Whr battery.
