I DID IT! AHAHAHAH! God, that was a massive pain in the ass few days of trial & error. I'm talking awake until 3AM and going to bed frustrated but it's working. IT'S FUCKING WORKING!!!
 
This computer is booting Ubuntu Server 20.04 w/ the GNOME desktop installed.

I took a look inside that Power Mac 7500 today. It's been quite  a while since I've seen tech like that. Here's the PowerPC 604 processor inside, under a large, passively-cooled heatsink:
 


 
The thermal paste was surprisingly hard to remove, and you can  still see some of it smeared on the heatsink. It doesn't seem to be alcohol-soluble and  smears instead of being picked up by the alcohol pad. Strange.
 
 

The PS4 Pro turns on, but it doesn't detect a hard drive, as expected. Looks like it was trashed just because of the bad HDD or because the original owners got a new console.
 
Is it just me, or does the PS4 family look like pencil erasers?

Edit  Tagging @CircleTech because he also  recently  hauled in a pile of e-waste. Unfortunately, around half the stuff I found isn't powerful enough for modern standards...
