Sauron reacted to SansVarnic in Response to Linus' Terrible Non-Apology About RAID Sponsorship
Without going into a point for point counter argument, your wrong, Plain and simple. This is coming from experience of having had run a business as a COO for nearly 10years before going self employed. Your argument makes assumptions on how a business works. And business does not work the way your projecting.
A business does not take on new employees and then finds money to pay them. Its the other way around. Linus' explanation is fair in this and why your twisting that is beyond any understanding. Taking on new venues of revenue regardless of the reason is good business. LMG is a for-profit company and Linus has no reasonn to apologize for that to anyone.
I do not disagree with his position.

One of the best skills to have is asking the right questions.
This is not the right question. It is far too vague. I see no vision in it.
How about explaining a whole lot more?

Sauron got a reaction from ivanrcks95 in Advise on a good Linux distribution based on my needs.
Your system is powerful enough that you won't notice a performance difference between most distributions. You don't seem to have any unusual needs so all major distributions would work fine for you and Ubuntu isn't a bad choice. If you just want to switch out of curiosity I would just try a few distros out in a virtual machine.
As for what, if it's mainly for learning purposes then I would definitely recommend Arch Linux - it "forces" you to become familiar with a wide collection of command line tools and system configurations.

just buy a small thumb drive, don't you have 5 bucks to spare?

Sauron got a reaction from Stevoisboss in How to dual boot properly
It's not about whether windows was up to date, it's about whether you updated it after installing Linux. Sometimes windows update breaks things.
Try taking out the sata SSD and see if the computer boots

Sauron reacted to Spotty in NVIDIA quietly announces a GT 1010 that's apparently faster than a GT 1030 DDR4
I was not expecting Nvidia to release a new Pascal card in 2021.
Maybe if we pretend like this is a really good graphics card all the scalpers will rush out to buy it, then get stuck with a bunch they can't sell.
Wow, the GT 1010!? I've been waiting for this for years! This is going to be the best value graphics card on the market! Hopefully I will be able to buy one on launch!

There's no such thing as a failure when testing, only valuable data,
Chances are they'll learn more from this than they would from a successful full test.
Remember folks, the difference between science and messing around is writing stuff down.

Sauron got a reaction from Dutch_Master in I wanted to install Linux Ubuntu on a SEPRATE STORAGE DRIVE (NOT ON SAME DRIVE WHERE WINDOWS IS)
if you're struggling so much just unplug your windows drive, go through the installation with the defaults and when you're done plug the windows drive back in. You'll have to pick which to boot using the motherboard's boot menu, otherwise you can scan for the windows installation from Ubuntu to have it show up in grub but given the amount of trouble you're having maybe that's a bridge too far.
Also consider that not everyone on the internet has your exact computer and can read your mind about the exact problem you're having.
uhhh whatever do you mean? once it's installed right it's just going to boot, if you're using something like ubuntu the installation process is typically not hard at all, at least no harder than the windows installation process.

Bull-fucking-shit. The only thing it says about the other candidates is that Linus considered her a better choice than the others, that's all. Anything else is you projecting things.

It's not a competition, you make what you want to make however you think it should be made. If you don't have a good reason not to use a premade library then you should just use it. Don't reinvent the wheel unless it's out of necessity or for learning purposes.

Sauron reacted to Jet_ski in CDPR co-founder apologizes for Cyberpunk 2077 launch on last gen consoles
Summary
In a video released on the YouTube page of Cyberpunk 2077, Marvin Iwinsky the co-founded of CD Projekt Red apologizes for the last gen console launch issues and says he and the board are responsible for the decision to launch the game. He gives some details about what happened with the launch but they boil down to “it’s hard to make open world games.”
The most notable info he shared is the Cyberpunk 2077 updates roadmap. It shows that the next gen console version of the game won’t be release until later in the second half of 2021. The DLC should be released towards in Q2.
My thoughts
This is absolutely not cool that they are prioritizing the DLC over the next-gen consoles. They can put it however they want, they are being greedy and want to have a second launch next holiday/gaming season without actually creating more content. They SHOULD have told people at launch that the next-gen version of the game won’t be released until end of 2021.
Between PS4 and Xbox One there are over 150 million users who were told they could play this game in December but won’t for another few months.

Depends on what you mean with "by myself". You can probably get something that works similarly without too much effort by using premade libraries for voice recognition and natural language processing.
If you mean from scratch, forget it. Even someone with decades of experience in the field would have trouble developing everything necessary starting from nothing on their own.
Also this is definitely not a "complete beginner" project. It's kind of like asking if you could qualify for an olympic swim team without knowing how to swim.

Sauron reacted to minibois in About Android getting Malware
Who hurt you?
You seem really terribly angry at someone and now youre just posting a seemingly unprovoked rant.
Android is more susceptible to viruses than iOS is and people can rightfully complain about it.
Sure, most people won't encounter viruses, but for the people who aren't as careful, security measures do need to be there.
This is like complaining about seatbelts in a car because "I drive safely!". Well what about the apps around you that may get compromised?
