Space Reptile got a reaction from Moonzy in New Cinebench version is released, Cinebench R23
There is a Brand New version of cinebench released by Maxon today, wich makes it a very quick release following Cinebench R20, wich was released in March 2019
This new version supports Apples new M1 Powered mashines
The rendered image is the same, but the scoring is alot different, so it is not comparable to R20

This version also now shows the single core benchmark w/o needing to enable the advanced options, and features a build in stress test where the test loops for 10 or 20 minutes

Space Reptile reacted to LAwLz in Leaked MacBook Air GB5 benchmark shows score higher than 16-inch MacBook Pro; SC higher than 5950X
    Such as?

    Those are a separate score.

Yes, that's an email about GeekBench 2 and 3 and we now use GeekBench 5. A lot of things has changed.
For example SHA1 is no longer part of GeekBench, although AMD and Intel both have their own hardware implementations of it as well nowadays.

It's still true that the benchmarks are small and can probably fit in the cache a lot of times, but if we look at SPEC which is more memory intense Apple's ARM cores performs really well there too.

The Speech Recognition test is based on PocketSphinx. I don't know enough about PocketSphinx to know where bottlenecks might occur but it could be as simple as the Intel processors being bottlenecked somewhere while AMD's processors aren't. That can happen in real world applications too.
The final score is good for getting an overall estimations of performance, not a 100% accurate representation. If you don't like aggregate benchmarks then GeekBench does provide the raw scores too. If you look through it then you will see the M1 does really well in the individual tests too.

GeekBench is based on a wide set of real world applications such as LZMA compression (using the LZMA SDK), JPEG compression using libjpeg-turbo, PNG compression (using libpng), PDF rendering (using PDFium) HTML5 parsing, running SQLite queries, compiling code with Clang, etc.
It is literally using everyday programs and libraries. Saying that it is a bad benchmark is like saying running DOOM, Battlefield 5, the latest COD and RDR2 isn't a good way to measure GPU gaming performance. How would you go about testing it then?

Because there is more to a laptop than just the CPU?
The top end 16" MacBook Pro might be more expensive cause it also has a much better GPU, twice the RAM, twice the storage, a much bigger screen etc? Those things aren't free you know.
You're also assuming that price always directly correlates with performance, which it most certainly doesn't. Apple has been very clear with the fact that they will slowly phase over all their Macs to ARM. It would be way too big of a risk to replace all their models with ARM based ones in a single go, so they have to keep selling Intel and ARM Macs at the same time.
But they can't just drop the price of the Intel Macs because the ARM ones are better. Hell, that wouldn't even make any sense even if the Intel chips were cheaper than the ARM chips (which they probably are).
Why would you lower the price on the more expensive to build SKU just to encourage people to NOT buy the brand new thing you are excited about? It makes perfect sense for Apple to sell Intel laptops at a higher price than their ARM laptops. The Intel ones cost more to make and Apple wants to encourage people to buy the ARM ones.

It makes perfect sense from a business perspective. Maybe not from the POV as a consumer though.
