That's odd that you're the first person to report big issues with GPU passthrough on a small scale. Looks like you're right about unraid. My real goal was to have something like a RAID10 with the 4 drives, or in the case of UNraid's XFS which I'm not familiar with, have two parity drives. I saw linus' video on using unraid to make a NAS/gaming hybrid. Looks cool. I've never messed with unraid before but I'm excited to do so. I'm building an i7 7700k NAS + gaming rig/HTPC with a GTX 1080, 32gb RAM, H90, 120gb PCIe4x m.2, four 6tb platter drives. All in a node 304 from fractal. Yes it'll fit. I saw that video, That was epically sad. I thought he was just going to be like "LOL I bought this for other stuff but look how awful it games" instead he was like "Man this is what I actually use to game, I guess I just don't get to play certain titles. Bummer!" The radeon 460 he has maxes out at 1.86 tflops, by the way. The radeon 7970 from 2011 has > 3 Tflop, by comparison, GTX 1080 has 9Tflop.

I found it very informative. I would've never even considered changing my RAM configuration in my laptop to save battery life. Now I know about LPDDR is more about use during non-stress tasks (though I still wonder how much life it really saves with normal use and not just in sleep mode)

Good point, the GPU goes from 1.3 - 1.8 tflop (GTX 1080 is 9 tflop. Radeon 7970-- 5 years old now, is 3 tflop) Yeah, I've been at the Macrumors forums trolling about what kind of computer I can get from alienware for $2500 (hint: 4k touch screen and 980M? m.2 slot and 2.5" ssd? yes please).
