    Medicate reacted to LAwLz in AMD Releases More Information on FidelityFX Super Resolution, AMD's Alternative to Nvidia's DLSS
    Maybe I am misinterpreting what AMD said here, but these news makes me worried.
    It sounds to me like we are quite a long way from FidelityFX being released, and we have no idea how good it will be.
    This is the quote I am referring to:
    It's great that they are working with developers to make sure the technology will be properly supported, but if they are still "evaluating many different ways" of getting their upscaling working then to me it sounds like they are just in the planning stages. During the keynotes I got the impression that FidelityFX would launch soon™ but now it sounds like it might be one or maybe even several years away.

    I am not sure about upscaling in games, but for video ML-based upscaling is far superior to any traditional algorithm.
    We can clearly see this if we compare for example FSRCNNX vs the best traditional upscaling algorithms like Lanczos or Spline.

    More tests can be found here, along with PSNR and SSIM tests.

    Machine learning is far superior to traditional upscaling. It's not just buzzwords.

    Not sure about the rest of the world, but currently Intel is the better value option whereas ryzen is the better pure performance option. Especially when you compare prices of 10th gen to 5000 series.

    I don't know where people get this notion from... HIs total system draw power is well under 350... And that's actually a somewhat decent 450w. Nothing wrong with that

    I'd go with the Pentium system. The whole system is on a newer platform so it has a newer motherboard, faster RAM and possibly faster storage. Also the pentium cpu is faster than the old Core-i3.

    Medicate reacted to Stahlmann in Intel's TDP ratings for higher-end CPUs make no sense anymore
    Both the TDP numbers of Intel and AMD CPUs are not what you get. On intel it's often more because most BIOS have some sort of "MCE" enabled by default, which take them beyond stock restrictions. And afaik AMD's TDP formula doesn't even include power consumption.

    I haven't seen a single card in Germany. It doesn't seem like anyone even has websites up for them. For the 30-series every website listed them as "out of stock", but I can't find any AMD card that even went up for sale? They don't seem to exist at all.

    Medicate reacted to tim0901 in Nvidia working on similar memory acess to AMD
    Honestly wouldn't surprise me if they had wanted to. They know they're in the lead now and are trying to take advantage of that position with anti-consumer tactics. Just look at the B450 kerfuffle - they only rolled back on their decision then because consumer response was "greater than expected", so in the future they just aren't going to make such promises to remove themselves from any obligation to be consumer-friendly in the first place.

    The sneaky pricing of the Ryzen 5000 series is another example of this - the 5600X is "only" a $50 increase... compared to the 3600X that nobody bought anywhere near MSRP. Same with the 5800X vs the 3800X. In the real world, the 5600X and 5800X are a $100 markup over the comparable previous gen chip that people actually bought, AMD were just deceptive about how they showed that information.

    The community seems to be a lot less critical of AMD when it tries things like this than they are of Nvidia or Intel, which imo is ridiculous. AMD are a company just like the others and they won't hesitate to screw you over in the name of profit. My prediction is that Ryzen 6000 will have even more of this - I certainly wouldn't expect to see a commitment to 4 generations of CPUs with AM5.

    IMO Nvidia was probably preparing this in the background for their professional cards (like the upcoming A6000), but decided to roll it out to their consumer cards as well when AMD announced SMA.

    Medicate reacted to LAwLz in AMD Radeon 6000 Stock "Seems Pretty Terrible" According to Hardware Unboxed
    Did you not read the other threads about this?

    @Deli was optimistic:

    @GDRRiley couldn't think of a reason why supply would be limited at launch and only third party cards might be an issue:

    @Blademaster91 said he believed stock wouldn't be an issue and that the reason why the 30 series cards were in short supply was simply because Nvidia artificially limited the supply:

    @AluminiumTech started listing reasons for why RX 6000 wouldn't have availiblity issues:

      @Warin was also very hopeful:

    @Lord Bloobus didn't think AMD would have stock issues, but that was based on (what seems to be) the wrong assumption that AMD wouldn't be competitive in the high end:

    @Gamer Schnitzel said people should have faith in AMD and that Nvidia only had supply issues because they wanted to have supply issues:

    @Doobeedoo was hopeful as well:

    @spartaman64 was also listing off reasons why the supply would at the very least be better for RX cards than Nvidia's cards:

    And these comments are just from a single thread. There are plenty of threads where people shit on Nvidia for supply issues, saying they will go with AMD instead out of spite, and such. It's pretty hilarious how quickly people went from "Nvidia are evil, I hate them and the shortage is a conspiracy!" to "yeah it's totally expected that AMD have supply issues too. Everyone has. I feel sorry for them".

    Like I said in the CPU thread when almost all AMD CPUs were sold out in minutes, if this forum isn't full of inane and completely unfounded conspiracy theories about AMD like they have been about Nvidia then I'll be very disappointed.

    Medicate got a reaction from Fasauceome in Im a little new to ssd, does my setup support nvme ssd?
    Yes your Motherboard supports Nvme drives, but it's only connected via a PCIe 3.0 link. The drives you want to buy are more expensive PCIe 4.0 drives, that will only run at the slower 3.0 speed of your Motherboard. It works, but it's pretty wasteful to buy 4.0 drives for a 3.0 Motherboard.
