Oh I definitely need this game in my life. Added to my steam wishlist.

    3. WaggishOhio383

And the game isn't a cash grab either.

    4. Skiiwee29

@WaggishOhio383hopefully it stays that way. To many games have promised that and once the game went live it shifted to that model within the first year.

  3. So hypothetically speaking, if you could get both the 6800XT and a 3080 at MSRP, would there be any point in getting the 6800XT over the 3080 if you are mainly gaming? Performance wise, they are basically the same, unless you want to use RT, then the 3080 is way ahead, but then you look at the software support/features. Nvidia has many cool nice-to-haves like DLSS, RTX Voice and Nvidia Reflex, they have way more partnerships with developers and their driver and software support is better in general. If I'm already spending $650 on a GPU, I don't think it would be that hard to spend $50 more for those features and much better raytracing. If the price difference was closer to $100-150, the 6800XT would be a much more compelling option IMO.

@Spotty To be fair, demand right now is kind of inflated because of how absolutely horrible Nvidia's (and AMD's) supply is. I was mostly talking about a best case scenario with both in stock and at the MSRP.

    3. Blademaster91

DLSS is nice, Nvidia definitely has the partner support and budget to get more games supporting it, unfortunately a proprietary feature. AMD is working on their own DLSS, i'm not expecting it to be nearly as good though.

RTX voice is something i'd go with Nvidia for, too bad AMD doesn't have anything like it.

I'd give Reflex a try, not sure I would notice a difference though lol.

Raytracing might be more important with upcoming console games, but since the PS5 and Xbox X are using AMD GPU's, AMD might optimize their own raytracing, theres a few titles that AMD's raytracing does well. But its unfortunate there isn't any one standard that can have both Nvidia and AMD raytracing support.

For a best case scenario with prices at MSRP yeah I'd go with a 3080, only concerns I have is how well the 10GB of VRAM would be after 2 or 3 years of owning it, and higher power consumption.

    4. TopHatProductions115

The things that impact me most:

      • video encoder (for livestreaming)
      • compute performance (F@H, frame interpolation, video editing, etc.)
      • VRAM buffer (for 4K gaming and other niche tasks)
      • software stability (because I hate reinstalling drivers constantly)
  4. Wondering if the new COD will get a discount for black friday. I'm thinking about getting it, but man, I just can't bring myself to spend $60 on it.

Yeah, the campaign looks pretty cool ngl. I'd mostly get it for multiplayer though, every time I try to complete a story mode/campaign I get bored halfway. lmao

    3. paddy-stone

I don't think I bothered with the campaign on any except modern warfare and BO. I gave up on COD entirely after Infinite Warfare.

    4. PonyBoyZ_

man same, really cant bring myself to pay $60 for a game however i do have a code from the RTX promo they had so theres that lol just gotta find somebody to activate it for me ig

  5. Unpopular opinion: The whole "scalper bad" thing is cringe. If anyone is to blame, it's the people willing to pay like 50% more than MSRP just to get a new console/GPU/whatever early. You aren't getting a worse product if you get it a month later.

@imreloadinnot only that but you also have a lot higher chance to get a lot worse overclocker with the early samples compared to later when the process gets more refined.

    2. PCGuy_5960

I just care about the white color TBH, but other than that light mice are generally better for lower sensitivity players in FPS games and put less strain on your wrist in general use.

  7. Fuck, the M1 in the new macs are looking really good. Not the absolutely as absolutely insane as the geekbench results made it look, but still damn impressive for a 25W CPU. It will be interesting to see how performance is going to scale at higher core counts and clock speeds on the desktop parts.

Still can't wrap my head around how they managed to beat/match both intel and AMD in single core performance at such a low frequency. (Or in other words how they managed to beat both of them in IPC)

    2. like_ooh_ahh

Most games tested on the new M1 Macs is Shadow of the Tomb Raider and one reviewer played WoW Shadowlands and it can go head to head with laptops with 11th gen Intel chips. However, it’s still an iGPU so the 16” MBP still performed better thanks to AMD dGPU. But, those two games are emulated and while the with the intel one, it ran natively. Man, I’d like to see AMD make an ARM chip considering that they have a license.

    3. PCGuy_5960

Don't think an arm cpu by AMD would have much of a point, remember, Apple has MacOS, while AMD has Windows which aren't that great on arm.

    4. WereCat

having DRAM on the die probably contributes a lot to performance in term of low latency

  8. I swear, badger can make any game seem like the best game in the world. I now have a sudden urge to play BFV.

@Techstorm970 Haha, not a fan of the design. I like ones that have something to rest my thumb and fingers on.
@Den-Fi I can't wait to get one of the newer MX Masters. I had the OG one and while it was good for Windows, it definitely lacked the DPI range I needed.

Mouse Grip Styles: What Different Mouse Grips Are There? Which Is Best For You? | WePC

It sounds like you're probably a palm gripper then.  I generally use tip grip.

Yeah, I'm not sure I'd suggest a G603 for palm grip...

    4. dizmo

@Techstorm970 I'm actually probably tip grip when I game, and when I'm just using the PC for normal stuff I'm more of a claw grip, but with the pressure on the base of the fingers, not the palm. The palm of my hand pretty much never touches my mouse.

I'm looking at the Ironclaw, G502, G604, the Roccat Leadr if I could find one not inflated, with the Razer Basilisk Ultimate in the lead.

  10. I think it's about time game studios stopped asking $60 for games, especially with the current live service microtransaction trend. $30-40 is a much more reasonable price.

Specifically thinking this because of COD CW. I played the beta and I liked it, but I'm not sure if I liked it enough to spend $60 on it. If it was $40, I'd buy it in a heartbeat though.

Reality can be whatever I want Blank Template - Imgflip

But yeah, for digital (and maybe some CD-based) games, they shouldn't have to charge this much on microtransaction-equipped games. However, cartridge-based games on the Nintendo Switch might want to retain that price, since they have to pay for the flash chip.

    3. paddy-stone

@PCGuy_5960Yeah I totally agree, I've been saying for about 15 years now that movies, music and games really should be cheaper and that they would end up with more profit if they sold for less money, as more people might buy them.

I'm not talking like $1 cheap, but say a more reasonable $5-$10 cheap, same as on sale prices pretty much, then they could theoretically have a market of like 2 billion + people. I would say more, but the hard fact's are that over half the world's population doesn't have any spare money as they aren't paid enough to spend ANY money on things that aren't food and other essential items.

      Movies are a different topic.

By now I am so fucked up by not working DRM that pirating while paying for a abo like netflix might be the functional way compered to 320p (or what ever) the streaming services deliver if I would still watch movies.

On topic of bad DRM and overpriced items: scientific literature (especially de gruyter unless they changed there DRM to less restrictive since the last time I looked at them).

  13. Can I just ask, how the fuck is it possible that Apple can beat both Intel and AMD in terms of IPC on their first fucking CPU? Intel I can somewhat understand, cuz they have barely released anything (actually) new in the past couple of years, but AMD? Maybe that's just a Geekbench thing, because Apple always had insane Geekbench numbers, but idk.

    2. themaniac

from my understanding geekbench is heavily, and i mean HEAVILY skewed towards arm based cpus, so of course when apple can make a chip that isnt constrained to a phone or tablet, they can get something that would beat x86 on geekbench

    3. James Evens

      James Evens

Intel and AMD spend billion on R&D so it isn't believable that Apple beats them with a fraction of power consumption beside some cherry picked applications.

      also: !(x86 == ARM A + apple shit)

On ARM M (or some other architecture I played with) for example there is no guarantee that reading a RAM adress will work. There isn't even any guarantee how many cycles it takes.

Same goes for other things on many ARM M3 you can directly sample the ADC into the memory (and run it on it's own clock). On AVR you can't making the ARM much "faster" in such applications.

    4. PCGuy_5960

Intel and AMD spend billion on R&D so it isn't believable that Apple beats them with a fraction of power consumption beside some cherry picked applications.

Yeah, that's kind of what I was thinking. This seems impossible, especially when you consider the clock speeds. Apple's IPC would have to be like 2x higher than both Intel and AMD.

I just realised there's no Acer PC. They have gaming desktops in the predator line. I wonder if they would have done better.

Weird, cause my experience with Dell's tech support was really good, but I contacted them for a monitor, not a PC, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

Makes sense after watching Dell's support in part 3

      James Evens

@Spotty Beside Acer especially Lenovo which might not be number one in gaming system but overall the largest PC manufacturer in the world. Could be that they don't offer phone sales for consumer.

What would be a larger shortcoming is that there is no brick and mortar experience like walking into best buy with $1500.

Anyway the average viewer is likely happy with this:

      1. you want entertainment -> you got it

      2. you actually want a PC -> you got a recommendation

  15. So after taking a look at a few different keyboard options, I decided, fuck it, might as well try Razer, so I got a Huntsman TE (surprisingly, I got it for cheaper than most of the other options).

I gotta say, I'm impressed by Razer. The switches feel super responsive and consistent and the keycaps feel higher quality than most I've tried. The only downside I can think of is that it is a bit louder than my old Corsair STRAFE, but it doesn't bother me that much. Also, even though they don't advertise this, you can actually control the RGB without synapse. fn+ctrl+numbers cycle through some basic lighting profiles, so if you want to just set your RGB to a specific color and forget about them, you don't need to install a bunch of bloatware. Call me crazy, but the faster actuation on the optical switches made a pretty noticeable difference in game, as I was able to hit counterstrafes more consistently than with the MX Reds (Although I guess the difference would be far less noticeable compared to MX Speeds, I think)

    1. kelvinhall05

Damn, forgot you were looking for a Razer, should've linked this (before they were sold, obv)

    2. PCGuy_5960

Oh well, too late now. I still got it for a good price tho, less than a GMMK/G Pro X.

  16. Don't mind me, just looking at your profile pic

  17. AMD new CPUs be like:

Now I'm wondering if waiting for next gen Ryzen which will probably be even better than intel and will be on a platform that isn't EOL would be better than upgrading in the near future.

@like_ooh_ahh Believe it or not Ryzen 5000 mobile wont be any faster than 4000 on select parts. The 5300U, 5500U and 5700U will still be on Zen 2. However their SMT enabled counterparts will be Zen 3 based. No word on H series yet

  18. Thoughts on Hyperx Cloud II vs Logitech G Pro X?

If you're not an audiophile and don't shit your pants over virtual surround sound, go with the Logitech.
