Razer has HORRIBLE quality control as in most laptops don't even get to 2 years so do not get that garbage.

Alienware is very much so overpriced.

The alienware r6 has a gimped gpu that is worse than a normal laptop 3070.

For that money you can have a lenovo legion 5 with a rtx 3080 and a ryzen 5900h if you so wish. I would recommend the 3070 version of it however. Can also get the legion 5 pro with the 16:10 screen which is really nice.

1440p for such a small screen is not worth it but if you really want it the legion lineup has the option for it.

Add a password to the BIOS, he might be booting off a USB drive which allows him to wipe anything on the drive including the protections and just do a clean install regardless of the permissions he has in the OS.
If the BIOS is set to only boot from the internal drive and locked with a password that's pretty hard to bypass.

If that's still not enough then yes, simply remove physical access.

Mnky313 got a reaction from GoodBytes in Windows 11: What the hell is Microsoft thinking? (RANT)
I had plenty of problems with my Surface Pro 2017 (7660u) but none with my main laptop (10900k). I'll probably try it again on the surface once the official release rolls around.

I agree, I really like the new design in windows 11 apart from some things (like the start menu being even more useless than windows 10 somehow... If you disable recent apps/files like I did you're left with nothing in it's place, not a smaller start menu but just blank space.... genius)

I also had WAY better stability on windows 11 than windows 10, I didn't have any program compatibility issues or even any crashes (this was the leaked dev build). I've had more bluescreens on this fresh install of 21H1 that I did a week ago than I did on Windows 11 for well over a month.

I don't agree with the sentiment that it brings no improvements, however it's the same situation that happened when going from windows 7 to 10. 10 brought more features and better support but was overall full of nonsense garbage and useless duplicate apps + even more telemetry.... Once people figured out how to remove the garbage windows 10 got to the point where unless you're running really old hardware I wouldn't even consider trying to run windows 7.

Really I have no problem with W11 so far. I really don't see what the fuss is all about. To me it's pretty much like windows 10 with an updated skin. (a better skin in fact, especially the control panel/settings window is a HUGE improvement over that sh!t metro UI tablet-PC settings screen with borderless buttons from W10.)

Mnky313 reacted to NumLock21 in How much is repairability of a laptop worth to you?
When it comes to laptops I see upgradability over repairability, but they both go hand in hand. When it can be upgraded, that means it can be repaired because that broken component can be taken out and replaced. Almost every piece can be replace but it all comes down to cost and how the complexity of the repair. Take  keyboard on a laptop as a example, some can be easily swapped out with a few clips, while other requires the full disassembly of the entire laptop and 20+ screws. IMO at the end it all comes down to how a person see it, the age of their laptop and the cost of the replacement parts. Is it worth to repair or just buy a new one.

repairability/upgradability is one of the main reasons I chose my X170SM-G. Everything is repairable/upgradable (even the CPU & GPU). Like yeah, it's thicc and you 100% can get the same performance in much thinner & cheaper laptops (especially with 30 series).

I'm hoping Clevo doesn't let me down with upgrades & so far they haven't, the X170 is compatible 11th gen CPUs and 30 series GPUs. Hoping the X170 series gets the same treatment as the P775s did (they went from 6700k/GTX 980 to 9900k/RTX 2080S).

I'm also hoping 40 series won't be a disappointment on laptops like 30 series was IMO (referring to the fact that the desktop cards are WAY faster than even the fastest laptop cards of the same name despite the 2080S in my laptop being the same performance as a desktop one).

AFAIK all nVidia cards (including quadros) can ONLY drive 4 displays. I've tested this with my laptop 2080S, even using MST hubs you can only have 4 displays active at once.
Fun side note: this includes VR headsets as well...
You can get a cheap USB A to HDMI adapter (or a dirt cheap old card) to run the 5" display, I assume that's just for a sensorpanel or something that doesn't need low latency

Any 20 series or newer card should work. (The G9 requires more bandwidth than 10 series has to run at full 240hz) Most if not all 20 series cards have 3 Displayport 1.4 ports which should be enough to run the 3 ultrawides (+an HDMI to run the 1080p monitor)

Are these vms on a virtual switch? They should show up on your local network like any other system

Id just try to fix that issue and use hyper-v here. Hyper-v is a pretty darn powerfull solution

    Yup proxmox can do that.

If you don't really care about performance that much you can store it all on the raid here.

Yea HDDs will suck for vms. Id probably just replace that 160gb ssd with a 1tb drive. Then back it up with PBS.

Mnky313 reacted to Electronics Wizardy in Help me transition one complicated Windows Server to VMs
Since you already got windows serer, Id just use hyper-v. Works well, and about the same feature set as proxmox.

What do you mean break? Hyper-v is pretty solid

You got backups of all of this right?

Let the host manage the storage, then use virtual disks in the vms.

Just saying, Id overprovision a lot more here. You don't need to setup threads likethis. Just give each vm 4 threads min to make things faster. You can also overprovision storage a good amount too, as most vms won't use their full virtual disks.

What drives are in these bays? What are you booting from now?

Id boot proxmox from 2 usb sticks in raid 1, then let the raid card manage the raid for the rest of the vms.

    Get some backups here.

Id boot proxmox from 2 usb sticks in raid 1, then setup those nvme drives with zfs in a mirror/raid 1, then use those nvme drives for vm storage.

Idk, I mentioned in my Fold2 review that I got it just to try it out and see if it's something I like and it definitely is.

If you just look at the numbers, yeah. it's just a slightly larger screen however it really feels like having 2 phones, so if you multitask a lot on your phone it's awesome. Stuff like watching videos really isn't any different than on something like a Note20 Ultra.

I honestly also really like the narrow outer screen, it's actually something I can use one handed and doesn't feel unwieldy to hold and use (one handed).

It really depends on how you use your phone, if you're the kind of person that is constantly switching between apps or trying to use split-screen on a normal phone it might be great but if you're not a heavy multitasker it probably won't be any better than a normal phone.

it should be fine depending on the mods, I have a server with E5-2667 v2s (similar single threaded performance) and usually have no issues. I'd recommend using Paper if you aren't using mods as it boosts server performance significantly.

Some modpacks (especailly ones that add lots of stuff to the worldgen) do have issues though, usually with large modpacks worldgen slows down after 3-4 people are loading different areas.
