Vode reacted to maartendc in Xbox says Sony and Nintendo are no longer their competition
That was the last guy, Don Matrick. Phil Spencer was a mid level executive at the time, and knew they were making a mistake. Actually Phil Spencer has been righting the ship every since he took the lead.

In fact, if you follow gaming news closely, Microsoft has been doing way more gamer-friendly stuff than Sony for a couple of years now:

    - Backwards compatibility for a lot of games from 360 to Xbox One (while Sony has no back-compat, just PS Now, which is expensive and doesn't work)
    - Supporting cross-platform multiplayer (while Sony has been actively combatting this)
    - Game pass subscription is amazing value (while Sony has been jacking up the price of PS Plus and removing 'free' PS3 and Vita games from the service you pay a fee for)

I don't care either way, I am just surprised people are still "fanboying" over Sony, even though they have been doing anti-gamer stuff ever since the PS4 has been market leader. (and yes, I own a PS4 and not an Xbox One, I kinda wish I bought an Xbox instead).

Vode reacted to NunoLava1998 in AMD releases new server CPU, EPYC 7H12; stronger than the EPYC 7742
AMD has released a new EPYC server CPU, the EPYC 7H12. This is an even stronger CPU than the EPYC 7742. At 64 cores, 128 threads and 2.6GHz base clock and 3.3GHz boost clock, this is absolutely insane, especially for servers.
    (Serve the Home)
    (Serve The Home)
The previous strongest AMD EPYC chip, the EPYC 7742, had 2.25GHz base clock and 3.4GHz maximum boost frequency. This is a 15% increase in performance. This is absolutely insane!

    Eight of these in a 1U. That's 512 cores, 1024 threads.

Vode reacted to RejZoR in Europe Parliament accelerating transition to Electric Cars
We aren't ready yet. Electric cars may work great in California, but over here where we have temperatures even below -10°C during winters and sub or around zero temperatures for several months, batteries are far from efficient. And while range is somewhat better now, charging isn't. Petrol engine needs 5 minutes for a refill to 100% with included time spent for payment and they can be "charged" all over the world without any complications. Charging an EV takes more than half an hour even on the fastest charging units. Assuming you even find one that isn't occupied. Then you have to deal with 500 providers each using its own dumb system of payment through complicated app systems. Imagine placing a 60 year old person in position of using an EV when they get scared by slightly more modern controls on a freaking washing machine. I don't like the way they are pushing these charging stations and I'm a tech geek, expecting normies to embrace it is next to impossible. It just won't work.

I've spent quite some time thinking of going EV and the more I was digging, the more I wanted to stick with petrol powered car.

Vode got a reaction from Taf the Ghost in New software update for 737 MAX
Seems like the philosophy of McDonnell Douglas has spread to Boeing after the merger.

I hope the free market will punish Boeing heavily for this just like it has done so for Mc Donnell Douglas in the past.

Vode got a reaction from Taf the Ghost in New software update for 737 MAX
This was a completely concious and deliberate move by Boeing.

One factor is: Added flight control systems with more than one sensor require flight crew to be retrained in a simulator, which induces cost for airlines. They sold the 737 MAX upgrade as an airliner that specifically doesn't require flight crew to be retrained in a simulator. The pilots weren't briefed on the existance of the MCAS, it would have required simulator training if they were.

This is not incompetence by Boening. It was deliberate decision to cut cost and get to market faster.
