So I'm looking at these two things and thinking, damn, this would make for a killer little budget gaming PC if paired with 16GB of RAM and a GTX 1650. Solid CPU and adequate mobo for $110.

Project Sh!tCentre is coming to an untimely end. I want to preserve the appearance of the case, but there is absolutely no way to do so and have front I/O, and after a week of trying...I need front I/O. So this badass case will go into reserve for a future project (yes, I have one already), and I'm off to pick up a Thermaltake Versa H18.

So there was a really nice RX 5700 XT that went on sale a couple days ago, and this is the long conversation I had with myself on the topic. Enjoy:
I don't need this. I've been through these numbers. All I need is a 5600 XT. Hell, I wouldn't even have sold my 1070 if it weren't too big for my new case. A 5600 XT is a marginal upgrade, I can get the one I want for $315 after tax, then sell it in a year and get a 3070.
But the 5700 XT is a big bump in performance. I'm not usually clawing at the gate for new games. The most graphically intense games I run are Planet Coaster, Storm Chasers, GTA V, Rust and ENB/modded to hell and back Skyrim. For 1440p on all of those except maybe Storm Chasers, the 5600 XT is more than enough.
...you have a 4K monitor, dipshit. The only thing you bitched about with the 1070 was that it couldn't handle your stupid modded Skyrim SE at 4K. The 5700 XT can. The 5600 XT? It's really not that huge a jump over the 1070. Do you really want to spend $315 on a card in hopes that your guess on pricing for better cards in a year is right?
But the 5700 XT is going to cost $400 after tax. That's an $85 difference. That's, like, half of a Corsair RGB fan! No, if I'm going to upgrade in a year, I don't need to spend $400 on a card today.
Did it ever occur to your stupid ass that if you spend $400 on the 5700 XT, maybe you won't want to upgrade in a year? Think about this math, Captain "I'm not an accountant but I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last month":
The 5600 XT would cost you $315. What happens if the 3070 comes in higher than what you expect? Even at your guesswork price of $550 for the 3070, let's say you can resell that 5600 XT for $200, eating $115. That means that your 3070 would now cost $665. Or you just buy the fucking $400 RX 5700 XT and use it for 3 years (your 1070 lasted 4 and was only sold because it doesn't fit in your new case) and spend $400 on a graphics card instead of $665. And that's assuming NVIDIA doesn't release a crap 3070 that's only an Intel-level improvement over the 2070S, and that they don't release one that's a huge upgrade and give it a price upgrade to match. If either of those happens, hey, enjoy your 5600 XT or overpaying badly for an RTX 3060!
Ok, fine subconscious voice in the back of my head. You make good points. I'll sleep on them and decide in the morning.
