  1. Stupid question: Do I need to disable secure boot in the UEFI settings if I'm going to dual boot Windows 10 and a Linux distro? Granted that those two OS's are installed on different drives and not just drive partitions.

    1. sub68

I would say yes you would but thats me

    2. SpaceGhostC2C

I lost track of which OS required it on, which one required it off, and which one "recommended" one or the other, and whether each of them could boot in one state if installed in the other state.

But I'm fairly sure secure boot off is needed or recommended for Linux, to deal with certain driver issues and such.

  3. Few more years until I buy a SUV. This one still serves my needs well. So far, my experience with the 2016 Honda Civic has been pretty much positive.

But for now this’ll have to do even though the blower motor doesn’t work again after replacing it and it’s starting to get cold here 😔😢

  5. I can’t help but contemplate about migrating all of our 7 computers including POS systems to Chrome OS.

    • It’s more idiot proof than a Windows 10 system loaded with an endpoint protection program, not to mention cheaper in the long run
    • It seems to be less cumbersome to manage remotely
    • Most of our employees know how to work on both Office and Google Docs
    • Microsoft 365’s tiers is way too confusing just like Windows Vista versions, even though we’re currently using M365 business basic

But then there’s the issue of ROI and compatibility. We’ve already spent money on 7 computers with Windows 10 Pro. Maybe I’ll give it a few more years and see if more small businesses within my area use Chrome OS.

  6. Most one star reviews of a highly rated product or commodity is either fake or stupid.

I usually toss out 5-star and 1-star reviews.

I live 15 degrees above the equator so I know how hellish summers in the tropics can get. However, my tolerance for cold weather is low.

along with shorts and me just don't mix, so i wear jeans that stick to my legs

I’m the opposite. I like shorts over jeans. I don’t like wearing thick winter clothing because they look tacky imo. I prefer minimalist clothing during summer.

    4. Letgomyleghoe

my cold tolerance is pretty high, so I just find myself wearing jeans and a denim jacket most of the time, only time i wear "winter clothing" is if it's snowing or im going to go snowboard. the lower half of my legs are things not to be seen by anyone but family and close friends, so I almost always wear jeans lol.

  10. Either Google Workspace refuses to work with Windows 10's built in email and calendar apps or Microsoft knows nothing about building a proper email app that works with other email services. I'm leaning towards the latter. It has been 30 minutes and it's stuck on an eternal loading page. I was hoping I can get calendar notifications on my PC without opening calendar.google.com but it's one of the things I hate about Windows 10: THEY CAN'T GET BASIC APPS WORK WELL

Say what you want about Apple but they know how to make a proper email and calendar apps that work whether it's Office 365, Exchange or Google Workspace.

  11. Spring cleaning old electronics, this one has the old W10 Anniversary Update. Found a buyer and we’ve finally agreed on the price. This one has an 3rd gen i5 Ivy Bridge CPU.

Ethical Analysis of a Shopping Cart : 4chan

Also, this is why in Europe most countries have you place a coin/token in the cart, which you only get back once you place the cart back in the corral.

    2. handymanshandle

I'm glad my car has plastic body panels for that reason alone. It really isn't that hard to take your damn cart to put it in the cart holder. There's zillions of them in the peking lot.

  14. If the leaks are proven to be true, Samsung will kill the Note line next year and make the S21 Ultra the next note.

    1. DrMacintosh

My urge to upgrade my phone is at a solid 2/10. My 8 Plus may have mega chonk bezels, but keeping it makes my wallet happy. Hopefully by the time I'm ready to upgrade the notch on the iPhone will be gone and the baseline for storage will be 128GB :P

    2. dizmo

I sure hope they're wrong. The leaks also said the pen wouldn't be built into the body, but would instead be an accessory purchased separately and would have a custom case for the phone and pen combo. Might have to aim for a Note20 Ultra instead of whatever they replace it with next year, unless they do a real nice job on that case...but it still just won't be the same.

By the time any iPhone has 128GB base storage, every Android phone will start at 256GB :P

  15. I guess it’s time for Apple’s marketing team to bring back ads like these 🐌 🔥

  16. Holy shit! And the M1 roughly has 10W TDP if extrapolated from Apple's presentation while the Intel one has 28W TDP.

    1. DrMacintosh

CineBench is indicative of nothing. We want to know how well it runs non-native apps. CineBench R23 is compiled for ARM. I want to see the M1 running x86 Premiere and a Windows 10 VM.

    2. like_ooh_ahh

You might have to wait until the end of Q1 2021 to see native Premiere and Photoshop for the M1 chip

  17. Apple is definitely low key talking about Intel when comparing about M1. Meanwhile, those guys from Intel might be saying “Can you leave us out of this? We’ve got enough problems already. I mean have you seen Ryzen 5000?”

    1. DrMacintosh

They are "talking" about Intel and showing how bad their chips are compared to Apple Silicon. But what I want to know is why are Pro Macs still shipping with Intel chips? ARM certainly has the efficiency benefit, but I don't think Apple Silicon will be popular with real Pros for years.

    2. like_ooh_ahh

I think I’ve watched somewhere that they’re not yet done with Intel so they’re still shipping out Intel based Macs. This makes me think that Apple has no plans of dropping OS support for Intel based Macs even after the two year transition, which was not the case when Mac OS X Leopard was the last macOS with support for PowerPC Macs.

      Me looking the presentation:

Wait. they are using Ersa RDS 80? not even the Ersa i-tools.

@DrMacintosh Wait a few years and apple will "fix" it. Also wait for reviews. Not the CNET, WCCF tech, Verge or LTT reviews. Good ones which are capable of working out the architectural differences.

I can't even eat Fast Food anymore in the first place. Don't need that Trash in my system.

  20. I'm thankful that no one is still using a windows phone in my class. It'll be like living under a rock, missing all important school notifications because you have to do everything in a browser and we're using Google Workspace. I think even Office 365 will refuse to work on a windows phone now.

    1. soldier_ph

Well you know there's the Duo now so Windows Microsoft™️ phones are back. But they'll still fail for sure, don't worry about that.

  21. Stupid question: Will AMD release a locked version of their Ryzen 5000 processors? If yes, when? 9_9

Because they tend to be cheaper and also, I don’t need to overclock.

    3. ARikozuM

Unlocked retains its value for longer. And there isn't any reason to lock a chip aside from fragmentation.

    4. dizmo
