Fuck. Just saw a topic where someone was saying about shit stuff from China... I feel like telling him to look on the box, or device info to see that almost everything including high priced "gaming" brands are made in China. I hate this BS where a country is compared to "cheap and nasty", those people should really look closely at their internals of their "high priced" items to see that ALL companies will cut costs on some things to save themselves money, whilst also selling these percieved "high quality" devices for high prices.
Yes, if you buy a $5 keyboard it may only last 5 minutes, it may also last 5 years or more... that is a gamble. But there's nothing to say that a high priced item isn't made in the exact same factory in China.
I'm not saying you should buy cheap, I'm just saying don't fall for the "high pricetag = better quality" bullshit. Look at reviews for products you are interested in buying, preferably from trusted reviewers that have extensively tested those products, especially for high priced items. It doesn't matter where they are made generally, a LOT of components that go into devices are still made in China, regardless of where the devices are assembled... please don't be THAT guy, the one that disregards an entire country because of false impressions. While sitting there talking on his cell phone "made in China", eating Chinese food with a fork "made in China" and wearing Levi's "made in China"

Woohoo! fork day... 7 more hours approx.
Really glad as the ASICs really killed my mining rate - only around 10 GRLC a day now on the main mining rig. But at least GRLC looks like it might be recovering from the downshift, it went up 134% since yesterday... only thing is it might tank again as the ASIC miners dump their huge amount of coins. If you're in it for the long haul that won't matter really. The ASIC miners shouldn't be on the network after today so mining rates should increase by a fair amount considering it won't have like 20 ASIC miners or more on the network anymore. Those ASICs have been mining upto 4200 coins a DAY, so expect the market to be flooded after each sizeable upturn in coin value.

    OK, so update with GRLC.

Now have ~326 GRLC all-in... I merged my wallets, details below.

With the upcoming fork in GRLC, changing to a new algorithm to hopefully prevent ASIC miners on the network. Some changes are needed, most of which is to change the mining program to support the new algorithm.. the hard fork is happening ~7pm UTC Friday 16th (tomorrow). If you are using a garlium wallet, IIRC you have to make changes to the program, such as updating the servers/nodes used. I'm not sure if that is enough by itself to prevent problems, so I decided to download the Garlicoin-core program instead, and imported my garlium wallets to use there instead. I also imported my paper wallet, and windows wallet.
I don't know if the above was NECESSARY, but thought it would be easier all round to do this now than to deal with problems during the fork change-over. I still retained the private keys of course, and encrypted my garlicoin-core wallet and made a backup.
So far so good, it's not quite as easy to use as garlium, but it does have more advanced features and can use cli when/if needed also.

I think that's about it.. if I missed anything out, let me know and I'll try to help if you're doing this also and you're stuck/confused.

Only time will tell if it's still smart to mine it, but am happy to continue for another while yet for the £27 or so it costs me in electric to run it each month.

112 GRLC now, one week on approx... had some downtime, so not fully accurate, and also I increased the hash rate about midway maybe. Will be easier to tell this next coming week for how many coins can be mined each week. Swapping my rig into a mining frame tomorrow should be, if the courier arrives on time... I was going to self build, but have decided this route would be faster overall, and can then take my time on the design for second miner maybe, will build one anyway.
I still have to build a cover for it though, will be fully dust filter covered when I am done, mostly I had to do this as the room I have it set in, my dog likes to come and sit in, and I don't want hair etc to get in there, make it easier to clean, AND most importantly stop my dog from getting static electric shocks and his tail caught or anything.

Updated my BIOS today on main PC, no longer can get 2933 or 3066Mhz on my RAM... 2666 for now, will have to get in touch with ASrock to see why this is, as it makes no sense to me that with previous AGESA was able to get higher frequency with no glitches, and now won't boot at anything over 2666. Not happy as it has been fine since june last year, so 8 months with no problems, then boom new BIOS and WORSE results, awesome work ASrock

It's not a BIG deal, performance difference is barely noticeable if at all... and plus I can get to 4Ghz now on all cores, so what you lose in one way is more than made up for by another I guess... it just makes no SENSE that RAM is worse.

Finally got around to doing a few things today:-

Reworked my main server config, and installed my new HBA SAS card... all going nicely with freeNAS accepting it and finding my ZFS volume etc, no extra work was needed at all
Made some cabling adjustments also, apart from the breakout cables I mean. It's now much easier to connect/disconnect drives if/when needed.

Put my new Inwin Polaris 2x 120mm fans in my case, in all their RGB goodness, lol... I actually got these for a future build, but decided to use them for now to give my VRMs a bit more cooling at the said of the case... lovely fans to work with, so easy and less cables to hide too. Can't really see the full benefit of them in the case I have right now, so that's why no pics.

Also put some new fans on my rads of the main PC and my mining rig, as the fans that came with the rad/AIO were making a horrible rattling sound every now and then, I think loose bearing or fans blades aren't done well and off balance. Fixed now anyway, so a bit more pleasant for quietness now. The other ones weren't terrible, but I do have OCD and disabilities where I can't ignore stuff how I used to... it was like a low hum/rattle that would barely be noticeable if in a room with other stuff happening, and for a £42 AIO I was happy enough to put up with them for a while... new fans cost me ~£20 for 2, went for corsair SP 120mm and they are very nice.

Reworked a few settings on the miners, now got 5KH/s more with the 1050, and the 1060s each got an extra ~40KH/s, so my mining rig is now ~1020KH/s, and the main pc is 175KH/s for the 1050.

Been a busy boy today, still didn't get to doing my mining rig frame though, weather wasn't good enough to be in the garden with power tools etc... and don't have room otherwise.
