  1. I need to study but I'm absorbed by the saying "righty tighty, lefty loosey". It is nonsensical! If the top of the turning thing is going left, the bottom is going right, and if the bottom is going left, the top is going right! There is no relative translation between the two parts!! One could use the right hand rule, that makes sense. But 'left' and 'right' don't describe rotation!!!

Left hand threaded screws. Screws that tighten when rotated counter-clockwise. :3

  2. Hot take: Hexagons are the bestagons.

Some of you will probably get it

  3. More rendering! And it loops!

This was inspired by the wireframe trench in Star Wars (1977), eventually I want to build this into some sort of race with wireframe spaceships, that'd be pretty neat. Generally wanting to flesh it out while keeping the aesthetic.

  4. I did some spooky rendering yesterday:

  5. Image overload. To be clear, I didn't do this thinking it looks good, just interesting. Almost comic-book like.

I just randomly happened upon this shape when doing some Calc 3 homework, completely unintentionally, when I thought "EGG CARTON" and distracted myself from immanently due homework.

  8. I'm not dead. Also, holy crap. Apple just released the iPhone I've been dreaming about for months -- an updated iPhone with the 4s' design! This looks as good as iPhone's aesthetic peak a decade ago... with what looks like some of the best tech out there. I'm no iPhone fanboy -- far from it -- but I'm feeling a little less loyal to my Samsung Galaxy S8 right now.

With my birds not being parrots, RGB, or animated (harassing a tv presenter), I feel these photos would look as out of place as wearing pajamas to a formal dinner😂

  10. New camera! More features! Video! Time lapse!

Perhaps I'll post photos and other stuff soon.

Average for me is 58 to 64 every day when I come on for the first day plus 20 to 30 more through out my day. Then also 1 to 2 PMs I'm active in, not to mention all the chatting via Discord. Then I'm also active on Reddit and Twitter.

  13. I've finally gotten around to taking photos of my laptop...

    DSC_0101.thumb.jpg.ac408332dfcd218a2c0650dfdc40f184.jpg

It's got a pen, housed in the side. Contacts charge it whenever it's docked, so I don't have to worry about replacing batteries.

    DSC_0123.thumb.jpg.d445fcd19d335d12df4ce6984bf4082e.jpg

It folds all the way around. After all, it is named a "Yoga". Writing on the screen is very good. It's fairly responsive, nice feel.

    DSC_0114.thumb.jpg.cd4e3f22c983bb5577456243364899dc.jpg

While it's a Yoga, it's also a Thinkpad, as evidenced by the nice Thinkpad logo.

    DSC_0128.thumb.jpg.d40ff80f78e426c94b0ed7b2753158f4.jpg

In addition, I can tell it's a Thinkpad by the piece of evidence that is the Trackpoint. I don't use it often, but I kinda like it there.

    DSC_0125.thumb.jpg.57b23382dc417cabc1f4bc75ca278099.jpg

IO wise, not too shabby. On the left: USB C (non Thunderbolt unfortunately), USB C with Thinkpad dock connector (the dock connector supports Ethernet), USB A, and 3.5mm jack. On the right: power button, micro SD, USB A, full size HDMI, and Kensington lock. The only real downside would be a lack of Thunderbolt, but with all the other IO, I don't really feel a need for it. Plus, it has Intel's Wi-Fi 6 AX201 2x2 AX inside, so I get nearly 600 Mb/s on WiFi.

    DSC_0121.thumb.png.4b57bf319d3633ba75c57f6b32642ad9.png

And lastly, what may be my favorite photo. This photo of a current laptop was taken on a DSLR from about 2005, on a lens from (likely) the '70s. I don't know the details of this lens, but it was my Grandpa's lens from his film SLR. Anyway, for me it sort of spans time in a way most photos don't.

Nice laptop you got there. I've always been a fan of Thinkpads in particular since we used them a lot in school. I too am gonna get a brand new Laptop soon, it's the XMG Schenker Core 15 AMD with a 4800H, RTX 2060 Refresh, 16GB of Crucial 3200MHz RAM, 2TB Seagate FireCuda 520 SSD and 144Hz IPS 15.5" Display.

  14. People are sick trying to scam grandparents. My grandma emailed about this Microsoft alert... On her Chomebook. Luckily, she didn't click anything, just restarted it, but still messed up they target these sorts of people. Now I have to go over to block this site and keep it from beeping at her.

They're not really targeting old people with those. They're targeting anyone stupid enough to fall for it.

    2. OJTheAviator

      OJTheAviator

Fair, but I think the elderly are disproportionately effected. They didn't grow up using this tech, and often have poorer eyesight so have trouble seeing details that help clue people onto scams. Sure, it's a Chomebook and the warning is Microsoft, but I think plenty of non tech people--many of whole who have grown up with these companies--would need a few minutes for that to jump out at them.

Old people are often technologically behind, are sometimes mentally compromised, and tend to have bank accounts.  Perfect victims.  What’s that phrase “heroin to school kids?”

  17. Well, I've been using my new laptop so much over the last few hours that I haven't had the chance to take good photos yet. TLDR (too lazy, didn't record), it's amazing. The keyboard is fantastic, as expected. The trackpad is as good as anything else I've used, though not incredible. The screen is sharp and bright, though the bezels do exist. The thing is built like a tank. No real flex anywhere. The touchscreen is good, tablet mode is nice. I've done a little note-taking with it now, and it's pretty good. The stylus is fantastic in my opinion, and docks into the chassis, so it's no bother when I don't need it. It's got Windows Hello facial recognition and a fingerprint scanner. I haven't had the chance to use facial unlock yet, but the fingerprint scanner is a nice touch (pun intended) to unlock quickly. In other words, I'm very happy.

  18. I'm at work, so I can't get pictures yet, but...

Side note, notepad++ gets suprisingly buggy and slow when working with a single line of text 20 million characters long.

Deceased cat gets voter registration application in mail

    Spoiler

    — In a presidential election year, there's always a push to get people registered to vote.  For one Atlanta family, that push got a little interesting.  Ron Tims said he checked his mail Wednesday and found a voter registration application addressed to Cody Tims — his cat, who died 12 years ago.  “A great cat, indoor and outdoor, loved his family, loved his neighborhood. He was 18 and a half when he passed away,” Carol Tims told WAGA-TV.  The Tims were surprised, and a bit amused when they saw what Cody received in the mail.  “There’s a huge push but if they’re trying to register cats, I’m not sure who else they’re trying to register. I’m not sure if they’re trying to register dogs, mice, snakes,” Carol Tims said.  The Secretary of State’s Office said the application did not come from its office and that third-party groups often use mailing lists to get names and addresses.  “Third-party groups all over the country are targeting Georgia to help register qualified individuals," the Secretary of State's Office said in a statement. "This group makes you wonder what these out-of-town activists are really doing. Make no mistake about it, this office is dedicated to investigating all types of fraud.”  The Secretary of State’s Office said it's quite sure that even if Cody were still alive and showed up at the polls, he wouldn’t be allowed to vote since he does not have a license or state ID.  If you’re wondering how Cody would have voted if he could go to the polls. His owner said he was a DemoCAT.
