ThePD got a reaction from maagz in Devs have forgotten what optimization means, they just dont care.
Unpopular opinion here but... The state of the gaming industry is largely the fault of gamers. For a long time gamers turned a blind eye to Bethesda's buggy bullshit because "Skyrim was great!". We live in an age where games are simply half baked and the rest of the game comes in the form of microtransactions or the games are broken on release because people pre-ordered(Why???).
Had gamers revolted against large companies; EA/Bethesda/Blizzard for the shady microtransactions/broken games they launched on release, then the overall state of gaming would of been better. Unilaterally it seems gamers hate microtransactions, so why do they keep appearing in games? Because it is still profitable... The same way releasing a bugged game is still profitable because people still pre-order because ("Bethesda made it."). It hasn't been until recently gamers started speaking with their wallets, and it happened far too late to make a difference.
There are a few good companies out there still, but a majority are just pushing out yearly releases and they still get bought by the millions. PC/Console are in the same boat here. When gaming went from "Lets make a game that is so fun to play it makes you want to quit your job" to.. "Lets make a game so expensive to play that you need a job" thats where things went wrong.
ThePD got a reaction from Dean0919 in Huawei ban
I am not arguing what is fair, not sure the point you are trying to make here. I am just saying, that China is known for stealing IP and for a long time it went unchecked. China is welcome to ban American companies, they will do what they see fit. Just like how the US saw it fit to ban Huawei. Was it fair for China to steal IP from countries for decades and when when those companies asked China to enforce copyright/patents, they refused?
If it was me, I would increase the tariffs against China. We have already slowed the Chinese economy dramatically, meanwhile the US economy continued to grow despite all the anti-tariff rhetoric that was thrown. If China continues to act the way they have towards the US in the past, then you will see continued escalation of blocks against Chinese companies. There is a very large amount of Americans that truly believe China was responsible for the downfall of manufacturing in the US.
There are many reasons Huawei was banned. Trade, IP Theft, National Security all played a roll.
ThePD got a reaction from Dean0919 in Huawei ban
There is literally a forum topic in Tech News right now about a chinese company taking Battlefield 1942 and posting it on Steam as if it was their own product. China has stolen too much IP from the US and other countries for the US to not act on it. Other countries are planning on banning Huawei or already have as well.

So it seems like this law is about minimizing exploitation of news agencies on the web,and bringing more honesty and fairness to the media on the web.

Neither of those two entities should have any form of power to control the flow of information.
We in the western nations (I think AUS is considered a "western" country? Not sure.) really need to get a handle on the internet. Freedom of speech and transparency should be forced down the throat of governments and corporations alike.
We should make them choke on it. No form of speech should be censored unless it is an already accepted exception to that rule. That being harassment (which occurs over time), incitements to riot/panic/violence, threats, etc.

No, the extremely nice and always ethical Google not protecting their business interests, I'm shocked.
I'm sure if it can be bad for Google they will find a way to make it look bad, while the law also could be that's basically a non factor for Google. It's not good for us so kill it.
Why are we taking Google's word about this?

Voting with your wallet is not an answer to this behavior, I dont think you understand how much these companies are worth, and how little it would impact them if a few tech savvy people said "not cool" and stopped buying their products. This kind of behavior is not going to be stopped by a lawsuit, or unhappy customers, the free market gods arent going to solve this, they are powerful companies with a very large amount of influence over how communication happens over the whole world. The problem is not about these companies being able to decide what to do with their platform anymore, apple and google own so god damn much of the phone market share at this point that any decision they make effects every single person on the planet who communicates with a phone, so when they make shitty decisions that negatively impact everyone, they need to be blocked from that, and telling people not to complain about the way they use a device that is so important to function in the modern day is missing the point.
We live in a society.

Apple cares about selling you their hardware, and not having the choice of any other app is very monopolistic. Imagine if Windows or Mac didn't let you use any third party AV software.
In the blog post it really proves apple are forcing a monopoly over apps, apple didn't care about the app being in the store for 3 years.

Don't worry, there will be people along shortly to tell us why they are still our saviors and how paying them to not only tell us which apps we want but to remove the ones they believe we don't need is definitely in our best interests.
They are a company that is doing this only to make more money, don't let yourself be fooled into thinking they are consumer oriented.

Dear big company,
You are my only choice for service X, I implore you to screw me over as hard as you can and then tell the FCC and any other government agency that I asked for it, I know it it sounds like justification for rape (because it is), but they will believe you if you give them enough money. Then I can live happy knowing I am paying over the top for 3rd world service.
Yours in denial, Under valued customer.
