Perfect timing for a new Linus video.  He goes over the proper way to store data using the 3, 2, 1 method.

StrikerX1360 reacted to Lady Fitzgerald in Best Backup Solution for Multiple Drives?
You are to be commended for realizing the need to back up your data. However, if your backup drive(s) is in the computer, it won't be a true backup due to certain vulnerabilities. If you put a backup of a drive on a partition on the same drive, if that drive goes the way of the dodo, you backup will also be gone. Even if you use a separate drive(s) in the computer for all your backups, if the computer gets stolen, knocked over, the house burns down, a power surge fries everything inside, a virus or other malware infects everything, you accidentally delete a file, etc., your backups will also be history.

For data to be reasonably safe, it must exist in three, separate places. What you are proposing would have all your data, including "backups", in only one place. The easiest and least expensive way to have your data in three places is to have it on the computer, on an external, onsite backup drive, and on an external, offsite backup drive. For a backup drive to be a true backup drive, it must be kept disconnected from the computer, powered down, and stored out of sight of the computer except while updating the computer.

For your situation, I would suggest using four backup drives, one onsite and one offsite for your games drive and one onsite and one offsite for your data. The onsite drives and the offsite drives should be swapped out as often as practical to keep both sets as up to date a s possible. For backup drives, I suggest using internal type HDDs with an external dock or an internal hot swap bay installed in a 5.25" bay.  You will get better quality for less money and they will take up less room in storage. HDDs are still the most cost effective way to store data. You can backup up both HDDs and SSDs to an HDD.

To backup your C:\ drive and the games drive, I suggest imaging using a program like Macrium Reflect Free. An image is basically a compressed snapshot of your computer which can be used to restore your drive to the state it was in when you took the image. Since you will be keeping multiple images of each drive, you will want to have a backup drive that's at least three times the total capacity of the two drives.  Making an image is as easy as connecting the backup drive, clicking a few keys, giving the image a name that you will recognize, then sit back and let the computer do all the work (it's also a good idea to first run anti-virus and anti-malware scans to make sure you do not back up a virus or other nasty). It takes only a minute or two of your time and the computer does the rest of the work.

System filesneed to be imaged only after you make a change to them, such as after updating the OS or a program or making changes to your settings, so you probably will not need to image them very often.

While imaging is essential for backing up System files (OS, programs, games), it's too slow and cumbersome for backing up data. Instead, you should use a folder/file syncing program, such as FreeFileSync (FFS). When set to Mirror mode (not the same as RAID 1!), you will essentially end up with a copy of your data drive. Since only files that have been added, changed, or deleted snce the previous backup will be involved when updating the backup, updates can take very little time. Also, most folder/file syncing programs have a feature called Verioning that, when enabled, will send files deleted during an update to a user designated Versioning folder or drive. This will protect you from losing accidentally deleted files.

Some one will probably suggest using a RAID in your computer or a NAS to backup your computer. First, RAID of any kind is NOT A BACKUP! RAID levels 1 and up are redundancy and will only protect against drive failure up to the fault tolerance of the RAID. As I mentioned earlier, drive failure is not the only thing that can cause data loss. A NAS, unless kept powered down and disconnected from the network except when updating a backup, is still the same place as the computer, not a separate place.

I'm currently using the Corsair Obsidian 450D which has been my driver since the end of 2015. I absolutely adore this case but have been tempted by the recent case trends to upgrade. The Evolv X has been on my list but I'm not the biggest fan of the front panel, especially for airflow let alone being able to see my nice looking fans. From the looks of the P600S I am dead set on it being my next case based on looks, features, and recently reported thermals.

See, I absolutely love cube cases and the PC-O11 Dynamic is definitely one of the nicest looking cube cases I've seen as well as the Corsair 280X. But I just don't have the space for a cube case on my desk which is why I'm steering away from it.

Speakers at the shows will already be provided, I show up and play music.

What I'm looking at doing is getting not something bass heavy, or focusing on the highs, but a flat sounding speaker. This helps me with mixing and mastering my own music at home, and in result, a better sounding track when played live. The types of speakers im looking at are called "monitors" basically just speakers for music production, and similar fields.

Two very different types of speakers. If I were just jamming to music, and playing small shows for fun then hell yeah the CR4's would be lit.

Although CR4's are considered monitors, quality wise, they wont match with the sound quality of two Hs8's

I think that it would be a great idea to do a competition for "Best FPS per cubic inch". In other words, see what the best mini itx build they could do on the cheap also considering that itx cases aren't entirely popular and the general formula for a successful build is "Get the meanest graphics card you can find with a quad core cpu" and i think it would be interesting to see them trying to balance a cpu with integrated graphics versus getting that as thin as possible and building a more conventional machine with dedicated  graphics in a small space.

StrikerX1360 reacted to CPotter in Channel Super Fun Update: Adjusting Release Schedule
    Hey Everyone!

We wanted to provide a quick update on CSF and our goals with this channel. If you already saw this post on Floatplane, its the same.

2017 has been an insanely great year (as you've seen from all of the awesome content in the recent days, weeks, and months on LTT and TQ), but has also come with an insane amount of work. While we've grown our team to an incredible new level, none of us have taken our foot off the gas, and we're all pretty much as busy as (or busier than) we've ever been.

This year, a big thing for us as been evaluating priorities and ensuring that the time we have is being spent optimally, and ensuring that we're getting the most out of the work we're doing. And recently, unfortunately, it has felt like CSF has been somewhat of an inefficiency for us.   The project was intended to be a once a week thing where we all gather to goof off and blow off some steam, but with 2017 being the year that it has been, it has felt like a bit of a chore at times trying to spam a "super awesome and fun video" out every single week - and I'm sure that has come through in some of the videos that we've released on the channel. So, the update.

This is far from the end of Channel Super Fun. We do still believe that we have an opportunity to make some crazy fun and entertaining content with the (very loose) "format" that we have on CSF, and hopefully you'll agree as you see the new content that we create. But we want all of the pieces that we post to that channel to actually BE Super Fun, and live up to the promise of goofs and laughs with every upload. In order to facilitate that, we've decided to adjust our release schedule to "hopefully one a week but maybe less," at least for the time being.

This will not only give us the time to focus on the TRULY "Super Fun" projects for this channel, but to ensure that we can keep up with the high standards that we've been setting on both LTT and TQ. Hope this doesn't come as a disappointment to any of you - we truly want to ensure that everything we create is as enjoyable as it can be, and in our minds this is the right call at this time.

TL;DR - CSF may not have a new video every single week moving forward. We're making this decision in order to maximize the quality of the videos both on and off CSF, as wasting a few hours in a busy week on something that's "less than Super Fun" has the potential to lessen the time we have to spend on the other awesome content that we're releasing. We're aiming to get back to the roots of the channel - making videos that are Super Fun to create and Super Fun to watch, whether the production values are high are low. We're excited to see what the future holds for both CSF and LMG in general!

StrikerX1360 reacted to NZXTfan in After 20+ years of console gaming, I completed my first "battlestation" on my own!
I posted this in the H440 Unofficial Thread, but figured it might get more comments, feed back, and conversations here, so here it is! My build! So after watching too many console gaming videos, and being a console gamer for most of my 33 years on this planet, I slowly started to watch more pc videos, and subscribed to most of the usual suspects. (Linus, awesome sauce, jayz2cents, hardwarecanucks, etc.) I slowly got more and more into the idea of building a PC of my very own, and after doing tons of research, reading, and pricing, I built my first ever desktop rig, to work, game, and everything in between. I wanted to keep it a sleeper, and not overly flashy unless I wanted to turn up the lighting, so I went with the rarely seen around here, black on black 440.

I had originally planned for a 970 card, but ended up getting a killer deal on a 980ti, and have enrolled in EVGAs "Step Up" card program, and will get a 1080 FTW RGB Edition when it becomes available in the program, or possibly wait for the 1080ti to come to market instead.

I also suffer from diagnosed obsessive compulsive disorder, so my build is very clean, and my desk/work environment, and surroundings are always kept as proper as possible.

The Final Pop Captain Phasma figure was a throw in at purchase by the salesman, as he said that each build should have a name, and a background. She has since been relagated to shelf duty as she was impeding air flow in the case.
