Thanks man. I'm actually probably going to put this setup less the GPUs back into the G5 Case and use it elsewhere. Only thing i'm deciding on now is do I get something like a 5960X/X99 or go with a 7820x/7900x on X299 to replace this current setup.

To be honest its been like this for a few weeks now and no real visible dust is piling up on it. I have a huge air compressor so every 2 weeks or so I'll go out to the garage and blow it off lol.

I also spent some considerable time managing the cables in the back but I'll say the case at least this P3 had a lot of room. Easy to work with.

Friends, let us rejoice! For another lost gamer has seen the light of PC gaming! My neighbor called me up last week asking about getting into PC gaming. Long story short, helped him pick out some parts within his budget and he's now playing around with modding Skyrim, having a blast.

    Specs:

CPU - Athlon x4 860K (with stock cooler for now)
    Motherboard - Asus A68HM-K
RAM - 2x4GB Kingston 1333 (from his old PC)
Storage - 1TB Seagate 7200 (from old PC)
GPU - EVGA GTX 750Ti SC
    PSU - EVGA 430w 80+
Case - Deepcool Steam Castle in white
Other - Optical drive from old PC

He chose the case because he liked the look of it. I would consider it a little pricey for the budget, but it was on sale. And it does actually look really cool, IMO. Not the easiest case to work in, especially for a beginner. But he did most of the assembly and we had it up an running in about an hour. He knew how to put the main components together but mostly needed help with where all the cables and connectors went.

Runs Skyrim at 1080p on high settings 60fps, no problem. Even with mods. He's pretty happy with it, to say the least.

I must say, the built in RGB LED lighting in this case is really nice. Can change it from red, green, blue, purple, etc. and you can adjust the brightness, turn them on/off or have it do a "breathing" effect and adjust the speed of the pulse. Case comes with a 200mm intake and 120mm exhaust fan pre-installed and dust filters on the intake ports to keep everything nice and clean. Also has an easily removable dust filter on the bottom for the PSU intake. Very well built case, I have to say, I'm impressed.

He uses the PC hooked up to his 55" 1080p smart TV in his living room since he doesn't have a monitor.

GPU transplant complete. The 980 Strix is SOOOOOO quiet and undramatic. Not used to this. I'm used to fans ramping up and large amounts of heat radiating, lol. Ran Unigine Valley for an hour. Whole system remained practically silent (all case fans at 50% or less) and GPU temps hovered at 66-67 the whole time. So far so good. Time to see how well it games (and figure out how to enable DSR ).

    Pics:

Thing is HUGE. That's a K70 behind it.

    Mid-surgery...

The mighty 290's. They will be missed. The 980 can't touch these in Valley. 60fps in the opening scene vs 100. They pack a serious punch when they work together.

Had the LED's turned up too bright for these pics.. but here's the new setup with the Strix:

I did miss the clean, open layout/look with a single air cooled card. Things got quite busy with the two cards and 3 AIOs stuff in there.

honestly, all pics i take don't even come close to portraying how big this thing actually is! i never really had monitors bigger then 20" up until now!

Eylar reacted to Abyssic in little work log of painting my GPU shroud
    Hi guys

After over a year of ownership, i finally came around to paint my Sapphire R9 290X Tri-X.
Thanks to @RollinLower, i remembered to take a few pictures with my shotty phone camera, so that i can make this work log.

    So let's get started.

The first thing i had to do, was completely take apart my graphics card.

These are the individual parts. missing the plastic shroud, as it's already out for painting.

Here is what the painted shroud looked like on it's own. the paint is still wet.

In the meantime, i used an old OEM 9600GT that i had lying around.

    coinincidentally, also a red one

and now, to make up for the lack of documentation pictures, here's some pictures of the finished work.
the work is not actually finished tho, as i'm going to replace the pcie-e cables with red extensions (like the ATX cable) and will most likely also paint along the sides of the graphics card's pcb. or in other words: make the yellow line from the cut pcb edge red.

feel free to let me know what you think and stay tuned to this thread if you want the see the two other changes that i described above.

    have a nice day

Update to my setup, got an HP w1707 for $5 at a thrift shop and popped on a Kraken G10 with a Antec Kulher 620 painted white on the 970. ambient temps in my room of around 60°f with an idle of 25°C and full load temps at around 38°C definatly worth the buy if you have an old water cooler laying around.

This is the setup I'm working with since Saturday. I just picked up a open box Dell U3415W from Microcenter for $722.96. Perfect condition and everything was missing.  Since I bumped up to 1440p Ultrawide, I picked up a open box 980Ti SC from there as well for $611.

Gaming on this monitor is jaw dropping. I was aiming for a 27" 1440p, but I'm glad I went this route. As you can see it is my main monitor sitting next to a Dell S2415H.
