DrMacintosh reacted to Curufinwe_wins in OnePlus erases data from phones running Open Beta
It does, though who knows how many are using that. Actually while on WIFI google's backup options are live backup not nightly by default. I don't know oneplus, but Samsung also has it's own configurable backup options.
I mean I literally had to reset an iphone this weekend because a pin somehow got setup for it and turns out the person in 5 years never once backed anything up.... **facepalm**

iJustine? She doesn't really do PC builds specifically, but she reviews tons of tech.

DrMacintosh reacted to Belgarathian in Apple gets weird and gives Roku exclusive integration with iOS and Mac
Not really that shocking... Is the Apple TV really that important to them, or would they rather sell more iPhones and iPads that integrate seamlessly with a wide range of devices and own the content that you stream?
Previously the stated purpose of the Apple TV was to have access to the main display in most homes, the TV, but they were losing that battle. So by making it an app on every TV and streaming box they get access to a much larger potential market for Apple TV, and give a bigger reason to all the iPhone and iPad buyers to buy them.

Morgan Freeman is in every stereotypical patriotic B-movie now with the word Fallen in it, isn't he?
Morgan it's time to stop.

DrMacintosh reacted to AnonymousGuy in It's Time to be Honest with Myself...
One of these days maybe samsung will realize no one fucking wants a folding phone. If I'm going to have a 1" brick in my pocket it might as well be double battery capacity instead of 75% more screen.

The screen is still plastic. Nothing can really happen until they can get foldable glass screens because plastic screens are objectively g a r b a g e

Finally, even the people who are getting these devices for free are realizing that they are complete pieces of crap.

DrMacintosh reacted to LAwLz in Windows 10 Redesign Imminent - "Sun Valley" Slated for 2021
This scares me, a lot.
Windows 10 already seems to be having an identity crisis, with rather large UI changes happening like every year and none of them are consistent.
Secondly, a lot of the UI stuff Microsoft has been focusing on recently is shit. Stuff like Windows 10X which I wouldn't want anywhere near my pc because it looks like a smartphone UI, and a very basic one at that.

What does that mean? Is there a magic country that should own all the VPNs?

The alternative in that case would have been to never release the film. The original studio deal fell through and the film needed someone to swoop in and publish it. Apple volunteered for that role. Hence the platform restriction.

Why did you think using a VPN would improve your ping? That doesn't make any sense. Of course a VPN will just increase latency, not decrease it.
-
DrMacintosh reacted to WereCatf in Movie Company Sues Pirates Who Used an Anonymous VPN (PIA)
No, you were stating things as if it was a fact that PIA was worse than not using a VPN at all and now you're trying to both backtrack and move the goalposts.

Do explain your rationale for such a ridiculous claim.

How many tb are we thinking?
Really, cloud is the way to go. Reliable, pretty cheap, secure.
If you want a self hosted cloud like solution look at nextcloud, but really, just go O365 or gsuite here, its a much better solution.

DrMacintosh got a reaction from maplepants in "HPDeviceMonitoring.framework" will Damage your Mac
Hello, I booted up my 2020 13" MBP running macOS Catalina 10.15.7 today and was greeted with a macOS dialog box saying what's in the title of this post. The dialog box would show up every few seconds after dismissing it. Ran a scan with Malwarebytes and no threats were detected.
Did some searching and came across this HPForum post: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printing-Errors-or-Lights-Stuck-Print-Jobs/Message-quot-HPDeviceMonitoring-framework-will-damage-your/td-p/7824355
Guy by the name of IronBadger (alleged Employee of HP) provides a link to download HP Easy Start which you can then use to remove existing HP software from your Mac. I uninstalled everything and after a restart the warning went away. Iron Badger claims that the issue is the result of out of date software (the security certificates have expired).
Hopefully anyone else who is experiencing this can find this thread and move on.

DrMacintosh reacted to RejZoR in iPhone 12 Pro so expensive in India that you can fly to Dubai to buy it, come back, and still save money
It's so hilarious people yet again going like "omg greedy Apple" yet it's the India smacking ridiculous "luxury" taxes on tech products making them absurdly expensive. Yet everyone rushes to piss on Apple because you're not cool if you're not endlessly pissing on Apple these days. How old are you all, 8 ?

You're just going to get charged the tax when you enter back into the country... Just another clickbait title targeting Apple. Is this forum becoming CNN now?

DrMacintosh got a reaction from Delicieuxz in In two weeks, Californians might reform the data-harvesting and data-privacy landscape - Updated Nov 4th
I don’t see how that’s bad. I pay a premium for my personal tech devices all the time and I’m ok with that because I know my data is being protected and not sold.
The internet is free because we collectively agreed that selling our data is a fair price. If you don’t believe that, then you have to pay for the cost of the internet somehow.
