@FloRolf USS Intrepid here was $35. I also recently bought another ship which was $40

The economical way to go about this game now that it’s out of print is to get 3D prints from fractions of the cost of the legit models. But I like to collect them so I pay these massive oof prices.

DrMacintosh got a reaction from BuckGup in MacOS multitasking is dogshit compared to windows.
Well, in the stock behavior yes? Even if you don't have fully expanded application windows you can still task switch better than Windows 10 with Mission Control or a 3 finger swipe up/down.

I bought BetterSnapTool some time ago for a few bucks which obliterates Windows 10s snapping features bc it introduces a lot more control and functionality. Also, configuring your hot corners in macOS might be something you look into.

DrMacintosh reacted to ProjectBox153 in Why is "instant wake" or whatever Apple is saying such a big selling point for Apple
It would be a nice thing to have for someone like me with an older model. Sometimes my 2017 13" MacBook Pro takes 5-7 seconds before the keyboard lights up, and another second or two before the display comes on. Interestingly my older 2013 13" Retina comes on within about 2 seconds of opening the lid almost every time.

For the same reason people move from SSDs to NVMe drives and think their computer boots up faster.

I have BetterSnapTool. Was recently updated for Big Sur and adds war more functionality than Windows 10 window snapping. I believe it is like $3 though.

DrMacintosh reacted to Den-Fi in would you recommend the new M1 macbook 13' over any similarly priced ryzen thin and l
I enjoyed my time with the 4700U in a thin and light. There's a little more than app support to consider though. If this was my only laptop, I would not have bought it. My other laptops are capable of dual booting Linux and Windows, and have accessible and expandable storage. That alone is a big reason I would say to go with a Ryzen based notebook. If something happens to the laptop, you can't fix it and you can't retrieve (or securely destroy) your own data. Then you have to consider that it's a first gen, borderline beta product. I do believe Apple Silicon is Apple's chosen path forward, but I also don't put it past Apple to replace it quickly. So as a main laptop, I say go with a Ryzen based laptop.

If all you're going to be doing is writing, browsing the web, and maybe doing a random video encode with iMove, Final Cut, or DaVinci Resolve....I'd say the Apple Silicon Macs are good buys.

However, if you do any "computer" related tasks like gaming or running a specific program that isn't compatible with macOS (Apple Silicon can't virtualize x86 software)...I would get a traditional think and light instead.

If you were from the UK, I imagine you would say "false." At least in popular culture and from what I've seen from the likes of people like James May, false seems to be the preferred term.

after market cards will have different options. Dual DPs and an HDMI is enough for most people. 3 Displays is about the max anyone has and that's what the stock cards support.

i can't justify an ARM Mac, for compatibility reasons too. i simply need Linux on my daily laptop alongside macOS if i were to buy one, and well, oof. i could settle for BootCamp but that's not available either.
