Euphoria reacted to Falcon1986 in Really need help and advice on what hardware I need and how I setup a backup 4G connection
There are other standalone devices out there which I'm not familiar with, but this is the solution that came to mind. They integrate well with each other through the UniFi Controller and setup is easy. Watch the video I mentioned earlier.

Again, if you decide to go with any 4G/LTE CPE gateway device, you need to ensure that the device supports the necessary bands of the data provider's network.

Sounds like you would be the perfect candidate for Starlink.

Since you live in Europe, take a look at the UniFi LTE Pro (U-LTE-Pro-EU). Check to see if the LTE/WCDMA bands are supported based on the cellular/data provider available in your region. It's based on the U-LTE-US which is limited to the AT&T network in the US, but works pretty well from what I've heard. Don't expect these failover devices to be perfectly seamless during a transition, but they're probably better than any other device out there.

If you decide to get the Pro, you'll need a UDM-Pro or USG. The UDM-Pro can host the UniFi Controller locally, whereas the USG needs a separate unit to do that for you.

An amp is just gonna make the problem worse. People really often get confused by DACs and amps. The thing that an amp does is to amplify the analog signal coming from the DAC, digital to analog converter. Which takes digital data and makes it analog. Therefore amping a DAC that isn't clean then it'll make things worse. Only a DAC will be useless and an amp will make it worse. So what you are looking for is an amp/DAC combo. Such as the sound blaster G5 or G3. G3 is a great little portable amp/DAC that even works for android phones with type-C ports. But is mainly better for PC due to having software to adjust stuff.

May be obvious, if you go this route, pick a network that has good signal where you are.

Yes. By default, it'll simply choose the best connection it can get.

Don't buy the cheapest thing you can find. Get one with two external antennas and which isn't powered off your USB-port.
You can't connect them to the same network anyways, unless your current router has dual-WAN functionality.
Depends entirely on the 4G-router. Many of them only use 4G for the Internet-connection and have no WAN-port at all. Also, even the ones that do also have a WAN-port are typically configurable in the settings as to which connection it should primarily use and which one should be the backup-connection.

As for a drop of connection: yes, if the router has to switch between the two, you'll see a temporary drop of connections.

Euphoria reacted to Alex Atkin UK in How can I improve the signal/connection on a mobile 3G/4G data dongle?
Assuming this is just poor reception, a proper 4G router (everything already built-in) usually performs far better as the antennas in dongles are tiny and they will not necessarily support the same speeds to begin with.

If its just an overloaded network, there's not really anything you can do.

Euphoria reacted to Donut417 in How can I improve the signal/connection on a mobile 3G/4G data dongle?
First find a provider that offers decent signal in your area. Not all providers are created equal. For example my provider TMobile is know to have crappy rural coverage, while Verizon is known to have pretty good rural coverage.

Second look for a 4G gateway with the ability to connect a external 4G antenna to it. There are many outdoor antennas to choose from. It will require some DYI.

You can try a different dp/hdmi port and cable on the card and monitor. If that doesn't work, try running something gpu intensive on a fresh install of windows or linux.

err, that isn't what inspectre does to my knowledge.

what it does is*disable* or enable the spectre patches.

which means you must have installed these (from Microsoft) otherwise inspectre doesn't really work.

Here's the thing...once you've done a new, fresh install, done all the updates and added the software you need....then THAT is the time to do a backup!! And to create a Restore disc...

So that next time the system shits itself, use the Restore disc you burnt when prompted to by the cloning software [I've used heaps of different softs over the years...once using only Acronis, then Aomei, Veeam and lately Macrium] - if I had to recommend just 1...then Veeam seems a better result when a restore is required, tho Macrium is very good in that you can create a clone from say,a 500GB drive to a smaller 250 GB drive]

Using this method, when Windows does crap itself...a restore can be as quick as 10 minutes...and you're right back where you started from...believe me; this is very sage advice!

I don't think that can happen with software patches, but I was surprised that when the patches were applied to my system, I didn't notice any decline in performance and figured I was just lucky.

    Snerk...

It seems every new update breaks/deletes something important.
Comes from having no QA dept any more.
But don't mind me, I despise Win10 and flatly refuse to use it.
I'm one of those smug bastards that uses Windows 9.

But in all seriousness, the rapid pace of Windows versions, or point updates, (I think they are on 200-4 currently) pretty much guarantees you need to keep pace or risk the latest and greatest feature (or worse yet, support) not being on your system.

It's the Apple plan, "We support only to the last point release...upgrade or suffer"

When you google it, there is a list of KB updates for those patches, you can remove them after the fact if you like. The ones already baked into the newer updates don't seem to decrease performance much or at all. Not updating the OS makes you more vulnerable to other attacks like common viruses and malware.
AFAIK the patches have been optimized and the decrease in performance has been mostly mitigated at this point.
As for gaming performance, the current version does perform equally as good as the previous one. I have not compared them that far back though.

Makes no difference really. But if you want the one with the least spyware baked in, LTSB/LTSC (unsure which is more current) it's got most of the bullshit removed.
If you want to be brave and try it, Windows 10 embedded , supposed to be an ultra-stripped down, no BS baked in, super lean OS.
Whether it makes any difference for gaming, remains to be seen

I'd opt for shorter cable runs or thunderbolt connections, although that'd probably be somewhat pricey

You can get power extensions that eliminate this issue right?
Also, maybe consider what Linus does with his personal rig, having the PC far away with one or two thunderbolt connections for everything.

Euphoria reacted to myselfolli in [Question] - Linus mentioned on the WAN Show that USB extension cables cause issues?
USB cables > 5 meters can significantly decrease signal stability and may cause issues, with cable lengths of <5 meters, preferrably not more than 3 you should be fine

Euphoria reacted to SolarNova in How can I test my new D5 pumps without tops installed?
If u just want to test to see if they turn on and work for a few seconds then u can, a short burst dry wont be harmfull. If ur so concerned then simply wet the impellar.

Running dry is damaging when done for extended periods of time, heat and friction causes the damage, however a short burst ,especialy if wet, wont cause any damage.

For example, Jay , over at JayzTwoCents, had to salvage a pump, he swaped out the impellars and ran it dry on camera for a second or so to ensure it worked and to show the camera, no harm done.

    At 3:55.
Again not recommended to run dry, but a few seconds wont hurt especialy if its neccesery for testing purposes like in ur case.

Euphoria got a reaction from Turretgaming in gpu core clock stuck on 300
Try running DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) is Safe Mode (this is important) to wipe any and all data for any display driver that has been installed previously, once finished just then install the driver you want as normal.

It's common for drivers being installed over the top of older versions to cause issues.

Euphoria reacted to Turretgaming in gpu core clock stuck on 300
I had this issue on my nvidia 980ti. The drivers need to be reinstalled cause windows sees it as a display adapter but not a 3d gpu so when you load up 3d applications the driver for it isn't taking control away from windows and swapping to 3d compute and there for it wont boost its clocks cause it doesn't know what to do.

Euphoria reacted to Lathlaer in Curved Ultrawide vs Flat Ultrawide - Opinions wanted please
I don't play many games but so far everything I have played since acquiring the monitor have either supported ultrawide out of the box or required a simple mod to do so. So no problem there.

I think people are exaggerating - it's usually someone who heard or read somewhere something about ultrawide not being supported so they keep parroting the misinformation even though they mostly don't own it.

Check this out, I doubt anyone has done more research towards ultrawide support than this guy:

Of course the more indie and obscure game you play the greater chance of it not supporting ultrawide format but if you play AAA or AAA-ish games, chances are there is an out of the box support or easy fix available.

Euphoria reacted to Lathlaer in Curved Ultrawide vs Flat Ultrawide - Opinions wanted please
I don't feel like it impacts my experience that much because I don't sit too close to my monitor. I can't say for sure since I've never gamed on a flat ultrawide but I have mine mounted on the wall and I don't really need it to be curved in order to enhance my peripheral vision. It helps a bit but not by a large margin.

For someone who sits, say, 10-15 cm closer than me it might be more beneficial and noticable.
Here is a reference pic to judge the distance:

Eh, I have 2 year old soft tubing that's still crystal clear.  Tygon 2275 is plasticizer free (also 2001, 2375, and 2475), Mayhem Ultraclear by its description sounds like its basically a generic version of the same stuff.

I cannot tell a difference between my used and new Petg pieces, though they were only used for 6 months or so with x-1 and Aurora 2 (different loops)

It's only Ethylene glycol based coolants that are considered bad for Petg.  Most coolant company's deny this though and say that it's fine or that they've never heard of anyone having any issues with eg and Petg. Mayhem's said they'd look into doing independent testing when I wrote them to have them label Pastel Extreme as EG in online shops.

@Ryoku do you know what red coolant it was that you used?  Just curious
