If you are modifying a file, and you just shut off your PC or something while that is happening, its usually corrupts and ruins that file. You don't turn off a computer while its updating because the files its updating are being modified.

Windows tells you to not turn off or restart during an update because its modifying/updating the files for the operating system (which is pretty important for your computer to run). If you shut it off while windows was updating, you likely ruined the windows install and need to look into possible ways of recovering it (maybe you can run some recovery commands using a windows 10 on a USB), otherwise you might need a full windows reinstall.

If you aren't already, you'll probably want to utilize something like Unraid for the server OS as well. I have a CS380 case, with a full size ATX AM4 motherboard. I'm currently running a 2700x in it. Advantages are with AMD and AM4, I have tons of options for processors to cheaply drop in to follow my needs, and it has a bunch of expansion slot space for Ethernet ports, GPUs, SATA expansion cards, ect. The case itself has a large amount of HDD bays, and I've replaced my 5.25" bays for 3 more HDD bays, so I can fit 11 HDDs, full size board with plenty of PCI-E, and a good motherboard for AM4 (good power delivery and stuff to support the high end AM4 CPU options).

You really need to get a budget. Are we talking $500? $2500? Your asking for a server that's hosting a LOT of servers. You could justify a very expensive system if you were truly looking to host that much. Each ARK server is recommended 2 CPU cores, ~50GB of storage, and 8-16GB of RAM. Per server. Your wanting a server to host 7-10? For it to be a good experience on each server, you talking 128GB RAM, and a Ryzen 3950x, to start (and just for ARK servers). What's the internet connection backing all that too?

In summary, I think you need to get a ballpark budget or max price you'll pay, and reconsider how many servers you'll actually be hosting.

If enabling a feature of the CPU made the system go haywire and malfunction, that's not really a feature. It is fine to have on, and won't affect anything even if you aren't using it.

i think 4.2 or 4.1 Ghz is possible though that will depend on your cooling solution. additionally i think the max safe voltage for 2000 series is 1.38 (needs confirmation) just try to see what your pc can handle. do a bit more research.

suchamoneypit reacted to Dutch_Master in Saving torrents to a network share (unraid) from Ubuntu
Your hunch about permissions could well be right. But first things first: do your torrents get downloaded at all? If not, you need to make sure your torrent client has access to the storage location, by making it a member of the group that has access to that location. To solve that you need the usermod command on the commandline.

suchamoneypit reacted to Bombastinator in what is the operating Temps of AIO or Custom Water cooling
I don’t think it’s a problem of reliability so much as that wild temperature gradient.  -30c is going to require something other than water to start with.  You’re looking at temperature issues normally only seen in watercooling by automotive companies.  Home PC watercooling isn’t commonly used in outdoor applications.  There are going to be weird heat shrinkage problems for one. Things like metals and plastics can change size and characteristics at temperatures like that.  That’s some really untested stuff you want to play with.  Many Auto companies actually maintain testing facilities in some small town in either Minnesota or North Dakota (I forget which) just so they can do this sort of testing on their new designs.

When Memory Express gets it back in stock pick it up for $520.

And for the monitor get a Freesync high refresh rate IPS display, I personally would get this:

Without doing any specific research, I can say its quite common for keyboard stuff (cases, switches, keycaps) to come from china. Really its all coming from china, its just whether there is a company with US stock.

In the latest WAN show he says that spending $20K on a Mac Pro makes him extremely uncomfortable, and that he's trying to make as much content as possible in a short period of time so he can return it.

now tell me this, when linus makes a 10 gamers 1 cpu machine, does that make him uncomfortable? or a 6 editors 1 pc system? is it just because apple refuses to send you a machine that you feel uncomfortable?

because it seems that way to me. you work with much much much more expensive stuff all the time, but only apple's system makes you feel uncomfortable while it costs less than the 2 systems i just listed, by a long shot.

please stop being a hypocrite and treat apple computers just like any other computer you cover, thank you.

Apple computers aren't like other computers. They are designed for a different audience. If you spend 20k on a car that could drive 10 people comfortably to a destination then its pretty nice. If you buy a car that costs 20k but it can only drive you to your destination its a waste of money.

Just because I've gotten an information react, thank you ?. I will say, you used to be able to use jailbreakme on safari. You could then unlock through UltraSn0w (Although you should use Redsn0w before using Ultrasn0w).
