feel free to buy mine so I can afford the M240i (consulted with a bunch of BMW employees and test drove one today, it swayed me from buying an M4)

You get a .1 decrease in your 0-60 time in a BMW though lol

Alright y'all I decided against doing any performance mods for my car, instead I'm gonna be buying an M4 within the next year hopefully . I'd like to blame BMW for making it practically impossible to cheaply add HP on a 325ci lol

vanos or nonvanos M50? On every E36, if the needle moves to the right from straight up and down, the cooling system is failing and components need replacing. The needle should NEVER move from operating temp. Any wiggle in the coolant needle is a "well shit this'll be expensive" moment.

Regardless, the most likely culprits, having had E36 cooling systems fail on two of my own cars, and helping repair about 4 other friends' cars:
    -Water pump failure
    -Thermostat / tstat housing failure
    -fan clutch
    -radiator expansion tank
    -head gasket

Solution is, if your budget can withstand it, replace all of it. ~$500 out the door should cover all the cooling system. You didn't say the mileage but these are considered 60-80k systems. The Stewart water pump is a nice improvement over stock, but likely overkill for a DD that won't be abused on track. Stay away from metal thermostat housings on these cars; they're all aftermarket and all terrible. If you change the rad (recommended if >120k mile), try to locate a Z3 S54 / Euro M3 radiator. Thicker core and they are not much more expensive over stock non-M / US M3 rad. Stay away from non-OE / OEM suppliers. The radiator expansion tank is FAMOUS for cracking and failing. Definitely replace this when you do the rest.

Additional good while-you're-in-theres: all hoses, both motor mounts, and engine fan blade. When the motor mounts are aged, the fan tends to contact the radiator, which then shatters, dents the hood, and causes cooling issues. Similarly aged motor mounts increase strain on the plastic radiator end tank stubs, which then crack and fail.

I wouldn't touch the headgasket unless doing the above fails to solve the problem. I don't know anything about UK parts suppliers, but here in the states ECS Tuning and Bimmerworld sell complete packages to fix the cooling system. I'd imagine they'd ship to the UK, or know who to put you in contact with.

Y'all added about 140 pages while I was away damn. Anyway quick update on my e46. I painted all the trim instead of paying the obscene BMW price for shadowline. I've grown to love this color and honestly I'm not sure if I want to paint it white anymore, I might just opt for doing a new clear coat. I'm buying spacers and possibly an M-Tech bumper so I can get rid of the tattered bumper I have now as, buying some BMW matched leather dye to save the front seats. Also, anyone good with e46's or bmws in general recommend any help with P0174 P0171 codes that keep coming. I've replaced the MAF, DISA, intake boot, air filter, and I've had the system smoked to check for leaks to no avail.

"The only thing beyond Ludicrous which is plaid"
Alright guys, I know car enthusiasts don't particularly care for EVs, but how do you feel about the new Tesla Roadster. Watching the livestream right now they are saying they've achieved 0-60 in 1.9s and 0-100 in under 9 seconds. On top of that that they are saying they have reached over 250 mph, on a battery that can go "from LA to San Francisco and back on a single charge (200 wH) or a range of 620 mile range." Personally I'm a huge Tesla fanboy and think if they pull it off it's going to be the most incredible car in years.

    In Summary:
    0-60 1.9 s
    0-100 < 4.2s
    250+ mph
    3 Motors
    200 kwh batter
    10,000 nm of torque

e46 is definitely my favorite as well, not sure if its because they look much more aggressive than most others up until about 2015 or because it's what I have lol. I think the 4 series is the biggest I'd go now. I had an 04 745li which I loved, but it's far too heavy now. Gotta admit the fancy seats were nice though.
shhhhh I don't have snow tires or chains here in Portland

This is my new baby. 2004 BMW 325ci. Work in progress, soon to be wrapped in gloss white. Previous owner didn’t take care of it so I’ve put a lot of work in so far.

With new armrest delete kit from ECS and freshly wrapped trim. Seas are in bad condition, but I ordered some leather dye so that should help.
