Toxicable got a reaction from Grrizz in When will Skylake come to Desktops?!?
Oh man that would be a bummer, but I spose that's just how the hardware industry works. However by then we might start seeing the new forms of CPU's that don't use solely silicon.
btw Hi, im also in Auckland lol

I noticed in the latest Samsung phone ( I think it is) they have either 4 or 8 cores and half the cores are clocked fast, for high performance, and the other half are clocked slow, for battery life. I assume one set turns off or something along the lines when it's in one setting or another.
What relevance this has to do with desktops however, well most games only use like 1-2 cores so if you wanted to make the first few higher clocked the last 2 lower you may see some very slightly lower temps, either way i'd just snyc them though

    As above, don't SLI 960's.
Either just get a single 280x - Which will play practically any game at 1080- 60 ultra anyway
or get a 970 because like the 280x it is good value and will last for quite awhile
But also as above i'd look at upgrading that CPU rather tha GPU right now

    Welcome to the forum.
it would be helpful if you gave us a buget and your location. we should be able to make something with better graphical performance.

Toxicable got a reaction from Ryouichi Kiriyami in Simple(?) Cpu Question
Ill try explain this in a very over simplified version that ill probably get hated on for

programme1 can use up to 3 GHz on 2 cores - example of this is a game - which would be bottle necked by the quad 2GHz CPU
programme2 can use up to 1 GHz on 4+ cores - example of this might be compression programmes or rendering - Which would be bottlenecked by the duo 4 GHz CPU

The reason for them being only able to use tro use a CPU in this way is out of scope of this answer.
But to quickly explain it you can see some programmes are coded to user your CPU if a different kind of way, that's why everyone keeps saying cpu that fits your needs.
But also as explained by Luke in that video he did recent, bot all GHz's are created equally.

    We need a budget
Also please don't link a whole bunch of images like that, use pc part picker as you have but instead on the system overview page click and copy the code from [bb] or the permalink to the build on the side
In saying that this build will be much better at $120 more

Most motherboards of the same chipset (You'd want a Z97 chipset) offer very similar features, as long as it's a normal brand.
The main difference is how many PCI=E 16x slots a board has and how the UEFI is, apart from those two things most are prettyt much the same in terms of how they overclock and what not.

Personally if you're making a colour coded build go for whatever one suites that, otherwise just the cheapest one.

It would be easier if you werer to give us a budget then work from that but for something that'll last a few years with all the modern things about $1500
But it all really depends on what you want it for, you mentioned gaming we'll that's a given but would you also want it for streaming or content creation
this might be a base to work from
