Falkentyne got a reaction from birdflyer in Legit thermal grizzly kryonaut?
How about actually helping the guy instead of sending him on a wild goose chase?
There isn't even a color photo of the direct paste on the TG website.  Just black and white.

That being said, the Kryonaut from the 11.1 gram tubes I bought back in 2017 (from MemoryC on Amazon, authentic kryonaut) were both a strange "pale bluish-gray" color (also known as "livid").
It wouldn't surprise me if Grizzly changed the pigmentation of their paste to white, however.  Considering that Kryonaut Extreme is hot pink

Microcenter says the color is white.

So I guess they changed the pigment.

Falkentyne reacted to StreetFighta in 3080 with clumsy scratches near PCIe pins - possibly impacting bandwidth (x16 to x8)
Thank you @Falkentyne for the instructions - I contemplated doing that initially but I figured I'd make it worse b/c I lack the tools and steady hand to get it done.

Thanks for the links to the conductive paint - the pen version is available in Canada but its super pricey ($75). I don't plan on scratching any more pcbs so it'll be a one-time application :). I'll see if I can yoink some from a friend (or have them do it).

I did use a multimeter to see which pins and capacitors weren't playing nice and the only one I found with no reading is the one below - its right next to the first, deepest cut. I would still want to correct the rest but it would be interesting to see if that's the fix for the x16>x8 change.

I'll see what else can be done to get back the x16 bandwidth. I'll go the trace rebuilding route once I've run out of other solutions.

    Thanks again everyone.

Falkentyne got a reaction from freeagent in Seasonic Focus PX-750, good?
Please keep in mind that you guys are mentioning units made before the OneSeasonic revamp.  Ideally with 2020+ video cards, you do NOT want to buy the models made before year 2019, due to transient OCP issues.

The old models carry the name "Prime Ultra Platinum/Titanium/Gold" or "Focus Platinum/Gold", etc.
The new models are designated directly by their product code name in a more condensed, easier to understand format.  Also, the PSU cables of all of the OneSeasonic models are also compatible with each other.

So for example, you do NOT want to buy a Focus Plus Gold or a Prime Ultra Platinum at this point anymore.
What you DO want to buy instead is a Focus GX/PX or a Prime GX/PX/TX, and the power supply capacity following this branding, which is the OneSeasonic conversion.

Also worth noting is that some of the OneSeasonic models have more PCIE cable connector slots than the non Oneseasonic models, due to the removal of daisy chain cables on some models! (example: The Prime PX-1000 now has the same PCIE slot ports as the Prime TX-1000, while the Prime Ultra Platinum 1000 had fewer ports than the Prime Ultra Titanium 1000).  Also, all of the new Prime models now only have single 6+2 pin PCIE cables per port, and no daisy chain cables.  The new Focus line models do have the daisy chain cables.

The Strix is the best non LN2 card on the market once you properly thermal pad it.  It has the highest internal power rail limits once you shunt mod the card (avoids MSVDD throttling in Timespy Extreme, unlike all other reference / FE cards that are shunt modded).

Seasonic (oneseasonic) Prime PX-1000 having no problem driving a 580W Shunt modded RTX 3090 FE with the Seasonic 12 pin cable.
Being power limited by internal MSVDD / NVVDD limits at about 580W.  I'll see how the PSU does once I mod the *edit* 1206 size package shunts that control the unreported (in hwinfo64/gpuz) MSVDD / NVVDD current rails, which should free up power up to 700W.

So as a general rule when buying anything electronic on Kijiji carefully inspect the item and insist on seeing it working before you pay the seller anything, it doesn't matter what you are buying. I've bought a GPU years ago on there and I insisted on seeing it installed and working in a system before I paid for it.

Once cash changes hands you are basically screwed. Unfortunately you are likely going to have to chalk this up to a life learning lesson.

Falkentyne reacted to TimeOmnivore in CDPR co-founder apologizes for Cyberpunk 2077 launch on last gen consoles
Didn't really like the fact that this apology video was basically a bunch of excuses that seemed to want to explain why the game was released in such a broken state, but instead left me wondering why they didn't delay the game if there were so many issues. Also don't like how they brushed aside the PC release as if it was fine, even going as far as to say they were very proud of it despite the many issues it has - even aside from the bugs (of which there are still many even of PC), there's clearly a lot of cut content and underdeveloped core features, such as the police having severe AI problems. Its nice that they at least tried to address the problem as opposed to pretending everything was fine, but actions speak louder than words and only time will tell if CDPR will live up to their promises and are able to restore their reputation to some degree.

It would be great if Cyberpunk's blunder of a release makes more consumers stop pre-ordering and wait until the game is fully released, playable, and feature-complete before buying - maybe then publishers would actually release games in a complete state rather than giving us a broken mess and promising to fix it later. But that's probably just a fantasy at this point.

A 1080 is still a good card for all 1920x1080 run games or most 1440p titles, even though you won't get 144 fps in anything recent at max settings.
But with all the scalping going on and almost all even older cards out of stock everywhere, you're going to be paying too high prices for any used card.  But if you need a card and that card wasn't mined to death, I mean you have to do what you have to do.  Do you know if that card was abused or not?

Falkentyne got a reaction from Prodigy_Smit in Which thermal paste or grease is better?
All those pastes you picked, except MX-2, are like within 2C of each other.  It literally doesn't matter.
The best paste on the market right now is probably Thermalright TFX.  It's extremely hard to spread manually so its best to just draw an X on the CPU or GPU, diagonal corner to corner and then just apply the heatsink and let it spread by direct pressure.  The reason it's so good is because of its thickness.  It's a lot like the old Arctic Ceramique, so it's very good on imperfect heatsinks and dies, and has excellent longevity.  Unfortunately it's bloody expensive.

An OEM of this paste is Thermagic ZF-EX, which is just as expensive (both are cheaper if you get them from an Aliexpress reseller; Yao Yue Shop seems to have the cheapest prices on 6 grams of TFX, which is still about $25 shipped.

Yes NVCP stands for Nvidia control panel.
It's the 460.89 and that other game ready driver or hotfix right next to it that seems to be crashing.

From what I've been able to determine, EVERY Single driver after 457.44 (vulkan beta development driver) seems to be causing problems for different people.
And all the drivers AFTER 456.98 hotfix seem to be triggering "random" 6500C thermal "blip" alerts on the VRAM/VRM ICs during some load changes (at least on 3090 cards, someone was able to verify this bug by looking on a board with VRAM temp sensors).
