From what I've seen here general consensus is that he's trustworthy though he overhypes some brands/products.

Hmm I'm not sure about that one. There are a lot of developer sales going on, but the Steam sales aren't on at this time.

80FPS average is about right when at 1080p with hair works off, but that also depends on the location you're at while checking.

It would, except most people do not have access to 50 GB to 100 GB MKV files 😉

I suspect the issue is to make sure you are running GPU rendering, otherwise the software is expecting your CPU to handle the full load. I don't recall what capacity VLC has to support GPU rendering.

I personally use MPC-BE on my HTPC with a GTX1050ti. The PC has 8 GB memory and a Pentium G4400 and I have zero issues with 4k resolution streaming or MKVs.

I built it in like 2015/2016 and I still see no reason to upgrade.

Don't worry about it. You won't even be able to tell. HDR can't save a bad show/movie.

Sorry to hear this. I had no issues playing GOW4 at all on my 1070. It was smooth as silk. Maybe try reducing some of your game settings in hopes that it will be less taxing and give you a playable experience.

JohnT got a reaction from Derkoli in SVS SB/PB-2000 vs Logitech Z906? How much better?
You really need to answer this because you're talking about spending a lot of money and complicating your life and your setup A LOT. I'm not trying to be a stick in the mud here... I've just over spent on AV gear and it's really hard to stop once you start.

Hmm?? Usually this reduces your DAC/amp to just a DAC, and it feeds a line level output to a separate amplifier. And essentially your Arc becomes a pre-amplifier. The signal it delivers to speakers will not be enough for your to hear anything without a separate amplifier.

Ever considered a set of semi-high end active speakers? Take a look at the KEF LSX. It's a great balance. The sound quality is well above the Logitech, and it will let you add a separate subwoofer if you really want.

while the amp dac isnt the greatest, the biggest up grade in any audio setup are the drivers in this case the headphones. if you upgrade form the fulla 2 you will only get marginal improvements

Were you able to find an FR curve for this headphone? I’m not sure I understand what you mean by “big bass focus.” Are you saying it’s similar to the M50x?

I just bought them at the end of November. They were a reasonable price and I was in the market for a new headphone. They are really good in my opinion. Pretty comfy once you get used to them. They aren't as heavy as this guy in the video is making it sound... The cord is absolute garbage. It's super scratchy and you can hear it in the left ear (where it attaches). The pads are removable, but the driver screen/ear protector is attached and cannot be removed... so you can't really wash the pads and clean them like you can with more expensive brands. Just have to be way more careful when cleaning. The headband is very cool. It's shockingly good value in my opinion. I thought I was going to return them and spend another $250 to $500 more on something "better." The X2hr have been good enough.

I don't know if this is a rumor, but I heard some units shipped with the left driver reversed. Take the pads off when you get the unit and double check the drivers for symmetry. My unit was fine.

The sound quality seems good enough for me. I do prefer them to my DT770 that I've had for years. But that might also be because the X2hr are open back and my whole head doesn't get as warm when wearing them. I have them connected to a Schiit Stack "3", which is absolute overkill, but at least I know the DAC/amp are not causing quality issues. The bass is a little lacking for my preference, and there is a decent roll-off in the high treble range so that even movies/video are enjoyable. I doubt you will be disappointed unless you're an audio die hard. But you probably wouldn't have bought a Philips if you were...

JohnT got a reaction from Buurvrouw in Fulla Schiit or Magni Modi Stack?
The US prices dropped a lot over our post-Thanksgiving holiday. I've experimented with the Stack "3" and the Fulla 2. It's nearly impossible to tell the difference in sound quality with my headphones. I don't have ultra fancy headphones, but I tested with my X2hr and DT770-250ohm and they sound similar enough that I cannot recommend one over the other based on sound quality alone. Here are some pros/cons for both from my personal experience and opinion. I'm kind of a negative person so I will focus on cons . A product is only as good as the negatives you can live with, right?

    Stack "3"
    +Looks very cool
+LOTS of power - low gain is enough to destroy your hearing for life
    +MODI powers on/off with PC
    +No drivers
-MAGNI powers on/off separately and the switch is on the back
-I count four cords to the units (between power and one input)
-Volume knob is far too close to the headphones jack; not an issue for left handed operation but annoying for right
    -Power lights do not align
-No convenient way to attach the units - the PSYT is ridiculously overpriced and is annoying to use
-No convenient or first party rigid connection
-Requires space for both units (for RCA cables if stacked, or desk space if separated, technically you could hide the MODI)

    Fulla 2
    +Super small and cute
+Power is connected to PC - very convenient - no need to turn it on/off separately
    +Single cord to unit
+No drivers (unit name shows up at "I'm Fulla Schiit"
-Easy to saturate power even with 250ohm - for casual listening this shouldn't be a significant problem
-The unit tends to rock during operation because it only came with three feet instead of four (what the schiit is this all about??)

I'm keeping both though. I like the Stack on my personal desk and I plan to take the Fulla to work and replace my OriGen.

JohnT got a reaction from Derkoli in Smart TV's and their apps. Which brand is "best"?
You bring up a very touchy subject in my life. These apps and the endless advertisement is a waste of time. If you purchase from a reputable company (LG, Samsung, Vizio, etc.) you will not have major issues with support any time soon, but you will eventually have problems (as you are very much aware).

I have personal experience with Samsung, and frankly, they have some very nerd-unfriendly practices. For instances, HDR in one app is not the same thing as HDR in another app. I can get 4k HDR in Amazon Prime and 1080p HDR Netflix with the built-in apps, and for some reason, my 8000-series 2016 model (NOT A CHEAP MODEL!!!) has not been updated to allow HDR or 4k on Disney+. Samsung also promised HDR10 support for the 2016 models in 2017 and they have not delivered. And the best part is that Samsung does not publish change logs in between versions, nor do they tell you what changed when you suddenly turn your tv on and the update was successfully complete. And the amazing "sponsored ads" in the first box of the apps ? ........ ugh fucking ass holes.................... sorry about my little rant. In short, I strongly recommend a Fire TV or other streaming box if you buy a Samsung.

I would stick with LG since you are already using it. From what I hear they support their customers better than Samsung. They have a nicer interface when you get into the mid to high end models.

Because from your OP you had multiple pairs die and that's not a common thing.
So how did two sets of DT1770''s break?
Most headphones will break in the cable if they aren't abused, and the cable is detachable and replaceable.  Are you sure the cable didn't break?

Leave the wire where they are. Just connect the wire from the amp to the speaker, its so you can bi-amp like @JohnT said, which is where you do the crossover before amplification, its also for bi-wiring which is absolutely pointless. Those little wires are called "bridges" they usually look like this:

I'll agree to some extent, but it's not critical to add on the center, surrounds, subwoofers, etc. In general two decent speakers are worlds better than a sound bar... the rest can be a perk if you have the space and budget.

I wish sound bars would go away  they make me sad when people crank up the volume at local stores. The listeners fatigue has got to be unreal on those things.

JohnT got a reaction from JHurley7nrx in Audio-Technica ATH-M50X vs Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO 250 ohms
I didn't say the m50 is "better" for lows exactly. The m50 has a very exaggerated FR curve in the lower frequencies, meaning it is tuned to provide a higher SPL at "bass frequencies," to a point where the bass sounds bloated and unnatural. The m50 is for bass heads who just want to hear bass. Someone could argue it's a "funner" headphone of the two. But the 770's bass is much more refined and subtle by comparison to the m50. I have heard some music where the 770 was slamming bass into my ears. I'm not saying the 770 is perfect... I would get roasted alive if I said that around here. But in terms of audio quality, comfort, and accurate bass reproduction between these two headphones, the 770 is the clear winner. Especially the 250ohm pro version with the velour ear pads.
