VPNs are part of critical business and network infrastructure. Sure, Youtubers generally are promoting client VPNs for personal use, but you're generalising far too much by passing off VPNs as having no purpose outside of region locks. Even ignoring that, there's still plenty of reasons to use a VPN for personal use, given the widespread government surveillance, ISP tracking and likewise. I use a VPN for secure remote connections to my own network, very much a valid use for one.

    Hi!

I'm a final year Industrial Design Engineering student from Sweden and I'm currently working on my master's thesis on user experience in computer assembly. I would very much like to hear about your experiences and opinions on computer assembly, so I've created two quick surveys. The end goal of this project is to design a computer chassis that accommodates a joyous, easy, and satisfactory assembly experience. The first survey is for everyone, regardless if you have or havn't built a pc. The secondary survey is only relevant to those that have built a pc.

Survey 1 (Main): Computer Building Experience

Survey 2 (Secondary): Computers and form factors

Sir Asvald reacted to Fabioo in Why the Perseverance Rover computer is so "outdated"
In the wake of the Perseverance Rover landing I was nerding out in some stuff and I stumbled upon the Rover's computer specs. As you can see from the screenshot that looks pretty "outdated". (Source: https://mars.nasa.gov/mars2020/spacecraft/rover/brains/)
Don't get me wrong, I'm sure that hardware is state of the art technology and space operations have different requirements as our average gaming PC, but I imagined that due to all its sensors, real time maneuvering capabilities, machine learning and so on the computer would be a beast. Something multicore with a little bit more processing power than 200 megahertz. I know that it must be energy efficient, but I might be wrong but even my router is more powerfull than that and consumes little eletricity.
Not to mention the storage, I'm no space explorer and have no idea how it works, but since just the landing phase was expected to register more than 28,000 images (source: https://www.researchgate.net/publication/346537343_The_Mars_2020_Engineering_Cameras_and_Microphone_on_the_Perseverance_Rover_A_Next-Generation_Imaging_System_for_Mars_Exploration page 31) doesn't that storage seems a little bit odd?

So to sum it all up I'm intrigued by this all, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. Every computer and space nerd out there might be intrigued as well.
I think we probably have someone in our community that has the knowledge for clearing that up
So if anyone can shed some light on this topic that would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe if we raise enough awareness about this topic the mighty LS can help us out on that too.

    Cheers,

The best thing about this thread is that OP thinks NASA would need help from LinusTechTips to build a more powerful computer. As if
    1) NASA doesn't have the funding and expertise to do it better themselves.
    2) Linus would know how to build a computer that is going to Mars.

OP, you are either dramatically overestimating Linus' knowledge or dramatically underestimating NASA's resources.

Hello everyone, official DeepCool rep here. We got permission from the mods to post a general PC case survey in the off-topic section that's looking to take a pulse on the current case market to help guide us into making a better product.

No personal information or emails are required, so no marketing shenanigans here. We're just looking to get honest answers and opinions from the community.

I've posted this up to other areas on the internet and in hindsight there were a few questions that we definitely missed such as 5.25" drive bays, so if you feel we missed something make sure to leave a comment on the last question of the survey!

    Thanks!

Be aware that unless you live in the Northeast of the US there will be data caps. So you will have to pay extra for unlimited. Also be aware that internet thru coax tends to have higher ping vs Fiber. Though ping on coax is pretty damn good these days.
