There is a bit more to it.
People wear out and if you are not able to stop working, life becomes a nightmare because of it.
As I have mentioned in other posts I am a retired 3D artist/designer. You would think that having a nice cushy job like that I would have been immune from wear and tear. I was not. Also cancer can make life less pleasant and there is a lot of that going around.
As for retirement I figured I would need about a million dollars. I am not one to save because I like shiny new video cards and sports cars so I went the pension route.
Also to retire you need to have where you live paid for so getting into the real estate market as early as you can helps. My regret is not buying more properties.
I am not a fan of 401ks because of what happened in the housing crash. If you think as them as retirement pocket money you will be ok.
