yah i feel your guys pain, i got a nice high end x470 with a 2700x that still runs great, but i was planning on putting a zen3 in it when the time came but looks like im gona have to build an entire new PC now if i want that, because this PC itself gives me over 250fps on the new MW, im using a 2080 also. but AMD could do this but their starting to feel the power of being on top and feel like they can do what they want and the peasants will buy..... i guess ill either get a 3700-3900 for this pc and maybe build a new one but ill have to think on that.

Justify it anyway you want, it doesn't change the fact they knew and didn't tell anyone leaving them to buy 400 boards thinking they could drop a 4000 on it.

Intel never did that to any of their customers, not even by ommission.  The worst thing IIntel did was tell you before you bought that you only got 2 gens out of every board.

Any thing that is not X5XX is a dead upgrade path now. That's half the point.

The difference between the two is that Intel told you upfront what would and wouldn't work going forward, they haven't supported more than 2 gen on any platform and everyone knew it before they bought. There was zero reason for anyone to assume Intel would support 1151v2 on 1151 even when 1151 first came out.  In this case AMD easily knew a year ago and made zero effort to warn people this was going to happen, there are lots of reasons for people to assume it would be supported.  How anyone can fool themselves into thinking Intel did the consumers wrong while AMD did exceedingly worse is beyond me.

The sadder part is that when Intel did it (as expected and announced)  people were jumping over themselves calling it anti consumer and how Intel were only doing it to sell more motherboards,  Those accusations are decidedly absent this time around.  A surprise to nobody I am sure.

The claim of "until 2020" to me, means through 2020 because all the reviewers were hyping up B450/X470 as an amazing value and you'd be able to throw a Zen2 cpu on it,  now AMD doesn't really have the advantage of being any cheaper over Intel. Yeah there are cheap X570 boards but the cheap ones aren't any better than B450, and you could actually get a Z390 board with more features for less than a X570 board.
I like AMD's products and what they've done to get Intel to be competitive again, but I can't stand the people that always defend AMD as if they can do no wrong, in this case AMD is really pulling an Intel but it almost seems worse because people are being told they can't upgrade even though the socket is exactly the same. Those that aren't aware are still going to buy B450 boards and be really upset when they realize there isn't any upgrade path to a newer cpu generation.

For me it doesn't really matter, I suspect (as I have argued all along) that there are limiting physical factors in supporting sockets and chipsets for any length of time due to the nature of technology development.   The issue is they could have been a lot more upfront about what will be supported on their road maps a year ago, if the general tech population are going to hang Intel for telling them outright what will and won't work on the next generation then they should be even more enraged with AMD for not telling them anything and leaving them believing the support is there.

Intel come out and say at the start what will and will not be supported on their CPU sockets and chipsets.  AMD release another socket identical after years of claiming they will all work and the let the hype train convince everyone it will and do nothing to stop it.    Huge difference in upfront information on products and long term support.

Pretending it is O.K while hanging it on Intel is incredibly less rational.

Can be argued for sure, but still definitely not an excuse to give AMD a free pass.    Is the AMD bias coming back or have people just been suckered into the anti Intel rhetoric that it doesn't seem as bad coming from someone else?

So it's o.k for everyone to make a shit stink about Intel doing what they have always done and never promised more than 2 gens on any chipset ever, but AMD get a free pass when they screw everyone after promising a lot more than Intel ever did both through direct marketing and riding the wave of hype?  BS,  AMD are being dicks about this now they can.  And I actually take great pleasure in telling everyone "I told you so",  as soon as any company gets big enough to screw it's customers for a few more bucks they do.

This is the crux of the issue,  I have been telling people since they first released AM4 not to do it thinking it was a viable long term strategy,  that you should always get the best you can afford at the time you want to buy,  placeholder CPU's, buying AM4 for future proof etc is was not a good enough reason alone.

I'm now kinda happy I got a 2700x for cheap on a decent b450 board. I'll grab a 3rd gen chip and maybe another board when people start upgrading to 4th gen.
I'm a little mad that b550, x570 aren't suppose to support new chips but its a hell of a lot better than intel has ever done.

I got good use out of my X470 board so I am 'content' with this but I actually feel bad for the amount of times not only I, but many of us here on the forum recommended a B450 board because of future upgrade-ability, I now think the info around AM4 CPU support has intentionally been obscured from the start. Many of us regulars here on LTT are enthusiasts, so we may have gotten 2-3 gens of CPU use out of AM4. But I actually am disappointing by this for those that just invested on Zen 2 and a B450 board.

It seems AMD was a bit misleading and while they can get away on a technicality that Zen 3 will likely launch late 2020 or 2021, I think the BS around not having B550 launch until just now (not even commercially available yet) not only seems intentional, but is going to hurt them. This will upset many people.

I personally don't feel as cheated but MANY others will. And AMD's bios excuse is a load of sh!t. This is why favoring AMD over Intel is dumb, both are big international corporations with investors to please. Especially AMD, they had many dark years that they need to make up for. I interpret this as them deciding that they calculated a greater revenue increase by forcing people to upgrade motherboards, my opinion only.

Hopefully vendors sill release Zen3 Bios updates, right now this might not be what is said but this was the same thing with A320. AMD does not support it, but vendors still provided Bios updates on many of the A320 boards to support Zen2, so we will see what happens.

If that is not the case I can already guarantee this means no Zen 3 CPU for me, I am happy with my R7 3800x (maybe I will pick up a a good R9 used or on clearance) so again, I don't feel cheated. But many sales were made on the promise of extended AM4 support, the fact that most 4xx motherboards could easily receive Bios support but will not, will hurt their new found customer base.

Congrats AMD for being Intel! 👏👏👏

Buy products people, not brands. At least the R5 3600 I recommended 100+ times is still great value vs the competition, even if it was with a MSI B450 Tomahawk Max...

Intel will at least be competitive, people forget we need both Intel and AMD or else the consumer loses with increased pricing. I don't like the higher power consumption either, but in a high end gaming system the GPU is still consuming lots more power, and most people will be using a large air or water cooler.

Read the articles. You might not care if your drive is 2x slower and if it gets kicked of a RAID array if you don't use it in a RAID array, but people who buy drives "specially made for RAID arrays" and the drives don't work in a RAID array do consider it unfit for purpose.

Hmm, 720p would be alright.. But I think 480p is just a bit too low. There is just not enough bitrate in that.
But I guess what must be done, shall be done.

If it's choosing between no YouTube and 480p YouTube, I think I'll go with the latter.

Oh boy, I can't wait to have everything fucked up and broken again because of this stuff (remember the transition from Win9x to Win2000 and beyond?). You know, like games filled with DRM drivers that will refuse to function with Win10X and no one will ever update them. Also can't wait for all the performance penalties because of sandbox fuckery. All the tiny gains we got over time with Win10 will be gone with this one. It's gonna be great!

I think they are being let off the hook. It wasn't Equifax's "fault" when the Chinese gov't did the hacking. It basically puts all of the security and funding onto the US gov't to prevent rather than the company themselves.
