I don't think it was dirty power as much as it was the strip being unable to handle that much load which made the PSU act erratically to compensate. Sometimes my bottom intake fan wouldn't even power up.
But you're definitely right about avoiding cheap power strips. I wonder how many people out there with unstable overclocks was just having inadequate power strips like me.
