My Mum is going to be buying my sister a new laptop based around some form of Ryzen 5. It'll be a huge upgrade from her current HP 2760p (i5 2540M), and far better than her previous AMD based laptop with the terrible A8 4555M.
My sister will be happy since it can actually run minecraft unlike her tablet's core M-6y30, and run it at more than minimum unlike the Intel HD3000 graphics in her current one.

Glad that its easy to tell which AMD APU are crap. I just told her if it's anything from AMD's A series, it's just a slightly updated version of what she used to have, and still shit. Go with anything Ryzen instead.

I have no idea what’s going on with the UK Electrical grid or if it’s just a problem with my street but today the Electricity cut out completely for about a minute.

The newspapers are saying UK electrical grid is almost at its limits cos Wind Energy is lacking.

I’m gonna hold off on Folding until it gets slightly cleaner and more efficient. Rn UK electricity is running on proverbial fumes.

I would have preferred to write it in C# or Java but Electron uses NodeJS and JS.

This board (lower end/more integrated version of what is now my GA-7IXEH) is listed as "dead" on Ebay for around $60. Technically it's not dead when it just needs to be recapped. Also - the exact same caps on my board died as well (just without leaking - though the green one on the right nearly lifted off):

You can kind of guess why the ISA slot was omitted on this board.

After it's tested I'll be grabbing my GA-5AA motherboard and finishing its re-capping off. Its 330uF 25V caps are all dead - and smaller than my new ones. Hopefully the same caps on the GA-71XEH (same size as new caps) won't follow suite.

Pulling my Asus H87M-Pro out of the anti static bag that its been in for the last 2 years, and I now understand why it wasn't working. The distinct smell of friend electronics was coming from the general area of the mosfets. RIP little board that could push my 4790K to 4.8GHz. And thank you Asus for the BIOS which despite Intel's microcode updates still allowed the CPU to be overclocked. Also, fuck you Intel for trying to lock features out.

AMD's E and low end A APU really make looking through second hand laptops annoying.  I keep on seeing "dual core" or "quad core", when from experience and that lawsuit (still got benchmarks from my A8 4555M vs i5 470UM, i5 540M and Phenom II N970) they only have half of that. And that A8 of my was slow and hot - yet I'm seeing the E and slower A series based laptops selling for near $500 - and my old laptop with that A8 7 years ago cost that while being faster and coming with a Nexus 7.
