GamerDude got a reaction from BTGbullseye in 6800XT or rtx 3080
Depend on OP's preference, IF RT is important, go for the RTX 3080. But, if rasterization is more important than RT, then the RX 6800 XT which is pretty fast for regular non-RT games. I went with an RX card because, while I appreciate that RT is the future, present gen cards from nVidia (let alone AMD) are still not good enough to do games at high framerates at native res (like 4K or perhaps 1440P) without the need for DLSS.

Plus, as someone at guru3D had said, DLSS is planned obsolescence, there'll come a time when GPU's are powerful enough that DLSS isn't needed. Also, for RT to run well at higher res, nVidia MUST give the game the DLSS treatment, what if an RT that (that may not be popular or a AAA title) that you like isn't worthy of the DLSS treatment (or so nVidia believe)?

Don't get me wrong, the future is RT, but I'm gonna wait another iteration or two of both nVidia and AMD cards, then see IF they're powerful enough to handle RT at native high res with good framerates, then I'd probably throw in my lot with RT.

Ryzen loves faster RAM, perhaps a pair of 8GB 3600MHz RAM....I have a Ryzen 9 3900X paired with 3600Mhz RAM (see sig), and I'm willing to bet just on CPU performance alone, mine would outpace yours.

LOL, that'd explain a lot! I'd read your thread, and I was scratching my head as to why an 850W Seasonic PSU can't handle an RTX3090, the PSU actually being a 620W one cleared things up real quick. II'd suggest that instead of getting an 850W PSU, get a 1000W one instead, gives you much more headroom for adding more parts to your rig (like more HDDs, AIO's or custom loop, etc)

Got a Sapphire Nitro+ RX 6900 XT to replace the RX 6800, not sure if I'd keep the RX 6800, but gonna take the weekends to enjoy the RX 6900 XT before I'd think about it. I've canceled my pre-order of the XFX MERC319 RX 6900 XT in favor of immediate gratification with the Sapphire card.

Don't let the angle fool you, they're exactly the same size and thickness...if you ain't sure, the RX 6800 is in the foreground.

Up and running in my main rig...

What PSU do you have? We need to know that it's good enough to handle a higher end (or more power hungry) GPU. What kind of games and resolution do you game at? What kind of monitor do you have, Freesync or Gsync, refresh rate of monitor?

GamerDude got a reaction from wolfff in rx 6800 xt or rx 6800
I believe there's a wider difference between the RX 6800XT vis-a-vis RX 6800, whereas the difference between the RX 6900XT vs RX 6800XT is slimmer, so the RX 6800 XT would be the better price/performance card (assuming you can get one at MSRP or as near to it as possible).

I have a Sapphire Nitro+ RX 6800, and I love it, though I'd be happier with a 6800XT. I've ordered an XFX Speedster MERC319 RX 6900XT (simply because it's near impossible to even preorder an RX 6800XT) and hope to get it soon. I don't regret buying the Niro+ RX 6800, but I should have looked at the 6900 XT instead of just focusing on the RX 6800 XT, and settling for the RX 6800 instead. Still, it's a fast card, almost 1.5-2 times the performance of my VEGA64 in many of the games I've played. Strange Brigade framerate is not far off that of CF'ed VEGA64's.

Two years, eh? Have taken the card out to look at the heatsink? I mean after two years, the heatsink may have accumulated dust or dust bunnies that may impede proper cooling.

Blame the scalpers, even the brick and mortar shops in my neck of the woods are scalpers themselves. For that price range, you'd be better off trying for an RX 6800 (non-XT) instead, but good luck finding one. Why not try Amazon?

I've ordered a PowerColor RX 6900XT Red Devil LE and an XFX Speedster MERC319 RX 6900XT, delivery would be a month or two. I'd take whichever ships first....on a side note, I can wait because I have a Sapphire Nitro+ RX 6800 in my main rig (will be replaced with the 6900XT) and for games without RT, this is a beast of a card! Can't wait to get my mitts on the 6900 XT!!!

Exactly! Otherwise, we might as well read or watch nVidia's press release or launch videos. Reviewers MUST have the choice to be independent and NOT only gush about a product simply because the vendor wants them to do so.

Your argument is faulty, what makes the other so-called reviewers more eligible/reliable? That they'd write very positively automatically qualifies them for the job? Even Linus has taken a stand, and I applaud him for showing some testicular tenacity and intestinal fortitude.

Sure, it makes sense from Nvidia's point of view to silence a critic. But I don't think we, as consumers, should applaud them for doing it. It is not in our best interest at all.

I really don't follow your argument that HuB is overly negative either. Yeah, they're not gushing about how amazing that new GPU is. They show benchmark numbers and point out issues. Exactly as a reviewer should do in my opinion.

Running it on my main rig (R9 3900X, 16GB DDR4 3600CL16 RAM, Sapphire Nitro+ RX 6800 + Adrenalin 20.12.1) at 3840x1080, High preset....runs about 40fps to 70+fps, but pretty smooth even when framerate dips to 40's. Doesn't look half bad at this setting in all honesty.

Accompanied my bud to a local tech mall, he was looking for a monitor stand, while I simply wanted to while my time away. Came across this hot piece, very last piece in the entire mall...

It's about the same size as my PowerColor Vega64 Red Devil

Tried it in my rig, played Serious Sam 4 at higher ingame setting than my Vega64 and still net higher framerate by a fair bit.
