Does the Russian dude accidentally discovered the app "Grindr" from the App Store or is it one of those things Alex Jones can rant about turning the friggin frogs gay. :D ?‍?

    3. handymanshandle

He probably looked at women and realized how repulsive they are. /s

maybe not /s, I'm gay for a reason

    4. orbitalbuzzsaw

ok, what the cinnamon toast fuck?

  2. It just works:

    1. PonyBoyZ_

You got apple confused with Microsoft. "It just works" yes while I get a windows update in the middle of a fucking PowerPoint presentation

    2. iamdarkyoshi

I'm talking about consoles in general

  3. Low spec gaming? Check

    Also, fuck composite video

    1. handymanshandle

      Fuck composite video

All my homies use component (on PS2 and original Xbox)

    2. iamdarkyoshi

      @Dan Castellaneta

Made my own set of component leads for my xbox

The image looks remarkable, absolutely zero noise

  4. Made a set of HD cables for my original xbox, and they absolutely destroy the original composite cable and even mid priced 3rd party component cables

I just cut up a 10$ AV lead and a thicc VGA cable

And here's some photos of the TV:

These are only 480i/480p widescreen stuff, but some games on the console ran up to 1080i widescreen!

Standing next to the TV on flat backgrounds, the analog noise is 100% gone and everything looks much sharper. All I need to do is put heatshrink on the TV side cables for strain relief and insulation, but I just wanted to see if I could get it working tonight. I also ran the digital audio signals through the cable if I ever want to add dolby digital to the setup.

    1. Schnoz

I read for a second that you were going to put "heatsink" on the TV side cables and before I read it again I thought you were going to cool the cable xD

    2. Energycore

Now that is some serious jury rigging

maybe the voltage transient is what caused the crash, and then the lack of cap that's supposed to be providing a stable voltage is causing artifacts. It's already fucked, what's the point in not trying to fix it yourself?

    3. The King of the Undead
    4. iamdarkyoshi

That was already the plan since the clowns as snsv can't be bothered...

  7. Dunno if you all knew this, but the 2DS is just one big LCD with bits taped off and then covered by the outer chassis

The touch screen is just a resistive digitizer on the "bottom LCD"

I sure had a good laugh at this lul

I managed to image this drive before it shat itself and literally rubbed the coating off the platter with a head crash

But yeah there's no way in hell you'd get anything back after this. Not my drive, FYI. Customer HDD.

@iamdarkyoshi Sorry, your project completely fell out of my mind.

Definitely didn't see any triple-core processors at the scrapyard anyway.

    3. LienusLateTips

@CUDAcores89 One day, I will go to this scrapyard you speak of, and pickup a pile of RAM, to use as wallpaper.

On a side note if you find any LGA 1155 boards or chips please DM me

    4. CircleTech

I currently have some gigabyte LGA 1155 boards listed:

Unfortunently I have never shipped internationally. I can get these to you if you help me ship them up to Canada in a cost-effective way. In other words, you need to hold my hand and spoon feed me on how to get these up to you at a price that makes sense for both of us.

I also have two i5-2400 CPUs on hand.

  17. So its super unstable, but I've installed firefox on the pi 4, and when it behaves, it can do windowed youtube playback without dropping frames, and can go fullscreen with some stuttering but according to the player, still no dropped frames. Best I've gotten to play is 720p, 1080p causes the player to crash.

Running firefox 60.7.2esr 32 bit since that's all I could work out how to install lol

Can't wait for updates to add actual optimization and hardware utilization

    1. Schnoz

Yeah. I only expect performance to get waaaay better over time. Half the performance belongs in the software.

It still can't handle basic youtube lol

    3. manikyath

thats because on the browser side there's jack shit optimization for it. if you use the whatever video player is actually optimized for the pi, it barely puts any load on the thing.

    4. James Evens

      James Evens

But it can still handle the quantum mechanics description for hydrogen in mathematica.

Not to draw away from the stupid issue at hand, but hol' up

They unironically recommend a Samsung Galaxy S3 because the OS is open source and free while also recommending workstations based off of older-than-dirt Opterons with the single core performance of actual urine (32C64T doing 1435CB in R15 when a 6C12T 2600X can do the same)

I get that some people are super serious about the whole free software movement, and I won't fault them for being that way, but torturing yourself with non-existent IPC and 2012 smartphones seems a bit extreme.

  20. Finished the vertical server racc

@Windows7ge Power strip is rated for 1800w, so it should be fine.

This station is just designed to clone HDDs to SSDs at work

We get a high enough volume to warrant building this from some old servers we were given for recycling. They're single socket xeon X3430 machines.

    3. Windows7ge

Yeah the important thing is that it uses a low gauge wire and has a thick enough bus bar. Just don't go to Walmart, buy a 3 dollar power strip and push 1600W though it.

In fact thanks for that link. I have projects that could use something capable of carrying well over 1000W.

    4. Trik'Stari

After seeing the power strips my work uses for our work benches, I became aware of "industrial" level power strips. Although the ones they use are surely cheaper and of less quality.

I mainly loved how there are INCHES of room between each plug. No device could EVER have a plug big enough to cause issues.

It is only now that I am learning that this power strip is actually capable of handling of more power than I am drawing. I know my window unit maybe draws 400 watts, and I know my PC isn't drawing a full 1000w that the PSU is capable of.

Still, great to know it can handle that kind of power.
