Have a look at the reviews from Harware Unboxed. They test GPU, VRAM, VRM temps with every graphics card they can get their hands on. They already tested several reference cards aswell. Just go to their Youtube channel and type "3080 review" into the search bar.

Very cool rig. My set up will be similar except I dont have any top case fans and a top fan blowing directly at the CPU cooler as the Corsair 450D's top front has spots for drives and such.

If I see a huge difference in temps I might buy a lancool 2 mesh case since my 450D is 7 years old now and the front fans are getting noisy, plus I cant fit a second fan I bought for my noctua because of ram clearance issues, which wont be a problem with the lancool because its wider.

I would have preferred to go with a 3080 but I hesitated at the moment of truth and balked at the $880 price of an EVGA FTW ULTRA that was amazingly in stock at microcenter, plus the 850W PSU to go with it. Which I kinda regret since that EVGA was such a bad@ss card and probably  worth the extra $ over the $650 3070.

I moved from an XFX RX 5700XT RAW II to the ASUS TUF RTX 3080 OC.

I didn't notice any increase in CPU temps that I saw, but I may not have been looking.

While gaming my CPU has been as hot as 75c with very CPU intensive games like AC or CP though, which is kind of high? I guess for a delidded CPU with liquid metal. However it is running at 5ghz with a 1.38v vcore, so those temperatuers aren't too unexpected.

I also have some decent airflow

I went from an MSI 980 to an EVGA 3080 XC3 UG.
The fins on the 980 ran the length of the card and allowed it to exhaust some of the air out the back of the case.
The fins on the 3080 run the width of the card and the opening of the back plate is pretty blocked so most of the air stays in the case.
The cooler/fins on the 3080 stick out a bit past the PCB but not as much as some other cards

The difference in CPU temps have been 1-3c higher at idle and ~5c higher at load.
I think this has more to do with how much more power the 3080 uses than with the cooler design vs the 980.

My case is a Corsair C70 with 3 intake fans and 2 exhaust.
    CPU is an i7 5820k OC'd with a Noctua D15s.

True, I've never had to deal with them before, I've mainly stuck with EVGA for their amazing customer support. I'd still try to reach out to them and see if they can offer another solution that I can't think of.

    EVGA 3080 FTW3 was $809.

I was able to successfully snag a 3080 FTW3 at the Cincinnati Microcenter location last Thursday after a two hour wait in the cold.  They had over 60 cards come in that day, plus a ton of the Ryzen 5000 processors.

There was also a massive drop on Best Buy today where I was able to get multiple 3090s and 3070s.

They are obtainable without bots and without much effort.

Yeah, I wasn't sure if you were in one of those vast areas of no stores.

If you're patient you can just wait. They'll be in stock in time. Latest I suspect March or April, but really, that's 1, not that long & 2, really pushing it. A lot of cards are already out there. Unless some disaster strikes, you'll get one in time.

Personally, I'm waiting for the launch of the RTX 3050 series cards for like low $100s.

I live a moderate distance from a microcenter, not close enough to check there often, but close enough to make the trip if I know theyll be in. They've consistently been having them trickle in here and there all along, and I went there on 3060 ti launch day and like 60 and a dozen or so 3070s and 80s were sold out before the line had even decreased to half size(and i got there 45 minutes early). Since Christmas I've never seen more than 1 in stock, and the 1 is already being saved for someone with a voucher. So Microcenter is a no go. I'm done wasting gas on them.

There are no other computer stores besides Best Buy anywhere near me, and even that's a bit of a drive. Newegg and Amazon are hopeless because scalpers buy them up in literally a few seconds when they randomly drop. I know because I have discord notifications and have gotten dozens of notifications and the closest I got was adding one to my cart before it was gone once. The situation isnt likely to improve either as demand is only steadily increasing and I heard Nvidia is now prioritizing 3090 production as they are way more profitable than 3080s and still sell out instantly. So its EVGA or bust, or hope I get lucky in the next year.

If you live near a microcenter u have lots of options. 9900k for 300-just keep in mind u need a really good cooler for this one. Then theres the 9700k for 200. Not future proof but for that price u could sell it a year later for no loss and it crushes games out now. You need a z390 for either tho so make sure u can get a decent priced one.

10700k might be a little over 300 after the holidays. Between 3700x and 10600k i would probably go 3700x for the future proofing 2 extra cores gives and 4 threads gives. Theres the 5600x as well. Intels 11th gen shoukd drop in a couple months so thats an option plus could push prices down more.

Not that hard if you don't care what aib card you want. Managed to get a 3070 on release day. Cards like 3080 strix and tuf very rarely restock and when they do it lasts may be 5 seconds on newegg. Newegg has been dropping at 4pm pst but they're forcing people to buy bundles now. I used the distill chrome plugin to track Newegg's site

Zotac was dropping cards on their site at usually around 6:35 pm pst, not sure if they're still doing that
There were some 3060tis up for several minutes on Newegg last week, haven't been looking much lately since I'm waiting for the rumored 3080ti now

A couple things stand out. Theres evidence that zen 3 performs a lot better with 8gbx4 memory than 16gbx2. Also id go for 3600mhz with tighter timings, say 16-16-16-36 if it doesnt blow up your budget too badly. Gamers Nexus did a video on it.

OP save yourself the money and get the 3080. The money you save from not getting the 3090 would pay for your next gpu upgrade. 10-15% improvement isn’t worth and extra $800

By how much, a couple FPS? The difference is likely negligible and if you looked at numerous benchmarks u might see different results.

Bottom line is that everyone is nearly unanimous that a 10600k is the better CPU than a 9700k, and usually cheaper. So unless you get some insane deal on a 9700k I would avoid it. Thats just my opinion though. You do you.

Ryzen 5900x will probably be better in every way, including gaming. If its just a gaming rig  go 5800x, which will also probably beat the 10900k in gaming based on leaked benchmarks.

maizenblue got a reaction from Mister Woof in Should I get 10700k?
So here's the thing. Everyone's talking about background processes and apps. If you have an I7 or an 8 core Ryzen it doesnt matter because u have threads to spare. That's the beauty of it. Worse case scenario if u go 10700k u spend extra money for extra multi tasking ability, so it still wouldnt be a total waste. I can have as many apps running as I want and it doesnt affect my gaming, whereas with an 8 thread CPU I had to be a lot more conscious of it.

Really it boils down to how much u save by going 10600k and if you are on a tight budget. If you can save 150 dollars or more then go for it. U can use that money to upgrade later when new gen CPUs come out. I look at it this way. It's just a PITA upgrading your CPU if its not performing well because u have to get a new CPU, mobo and usually ram, and u do all that just to stop stuttering problems but the FPS doesnt really change. So I go big on CPU and skimp a little on a GPU, since I can always just lower settings if my GPU isnt cutting it, and lowering settings doesnt affect things much whereas stuttering issues wrecks the experience.

If you can wait for zen 3 then prices of both the 10700k AND Ryzen 3700x/3800x will probably drop. The 2700x was dirt cheap after the 3700x dropped. I think it dropped to 140 dollars at microcenter, so I would imagine the 3700x is going to drop as well. If it dropped to like 200 USD on black friday U could just get that and save 200 dollars over a 10700k for a cpu that will perform almost the same at 1440p and the same at 4k. Plus who knows, the 5800x might even beat the 10700k in gaming for less money, although I wouldnt count on it.
  25. Agree
maizenblue got a reaction from MrDBD in Which Intel Core i7 processor should I pick?
It depends on how long you plan on keeping your cpu before upgrading. 10600k is a 6 core 12 thread CPU, while the new consoles are 8 Core and 16 thread, which means upcoming games will increasingly utilize more threads and cores than the 10600k has. For this reason and because I like to multitask and run numerous aps and stream, I would go 10700k. It should last longer.

On the other hand if you are someone that upgrades continually to always have the latest and greatest maybe a 10600k would be better since you'll save money you can use to upgrade a couple years from now. I split the diff by going 3700x. It has the cores and threads to last a long time but I saved enough I can upgrade early if I feel like it vs if I went with intel, but I also game at 1440p so the single core speed of intel isnt as important.
