1080p 144hz really worth it

Hey Guys,

 

I have a question is 1080p 144hz really worth it If My rig will not hit 144fps? I am going to be using a 1070ti. I don't think I will be able to push 144fps at 1080p ultra. Instead wouldn't a 60hz monitor be better? or is it that 144hz just offers better smoothes and playability?

I have a 144 Hz panel and a 1060. I can't always push 144 Hz but honestly, the difference between 60 Hz and more than 60 Hz (even 75) is really nice. 

 

Personally I set up a custom resolution with my desired framerate for the game I'm playing, then turn vsync on. 

 

For example, fallout 4 I set 75 Hz, same with skyrim. But lighter games I may set to 100 Hz.

Fixed that for you. The 1070ti is good for 60hz 2560x1440 or 3440x1440 ultrawides.

True, I can get 50-60hz monitors for cheap but they are not 1080p but if they are they are quite cheap. under $100.

If you're playing competitive shooters such as PUBG, CS:GO & R6S, then you should definitely get a 144hz panel. The difference is huge and is a much better experience, especially in games such as that.

For starters, a 1070Ti can easily hit 144FPS at 1080 Ultra settings in pretty much any title.

 

But here's my take on high refresh rate monitors. If you are gaming at 1080p 60Hz and it seems smooth to you then don't worry about getting a high refresh rate monitor. I got my first 100Hz monitor back 3-4 years ago when I got my 980Ti and before then I felt that 60Hz gaming was fine, but after gaming on a 100Hz monitor, I couldn't touch a 60Hz monitor again. It feels slow, and now I have a 144Hz G-sync panel, I love it but unless you feel like you need it then I would not worry. Although with GPUs pushing 100FPS+ on a 60Hz monitor often causes micro stuttering so take that into consideration.

Sweet, might have to consider buying the ASUS VG248QE 24" Monitor but will have to see my budget or wait til boxing day hahahah and work to get some funds until then probably be gaming on the 4k tv in the lounge with high input lag and medium hz.

Cheers mate will take that onboard. I guess I will just game on my tv for now and see how it is or my shitty monitor I have laying around then get some mulla to buy a monitor during sale near the end of the year.

Don't get me wrong high refresh rate gaming is great, but depends on what you want to spend on a monitor. You will have to justify the cost.
