1080 Ti or 2070?

Zhaxye

Which one is better? RTX 2070, and 1080 Ti? I can found them at simillar price, but i cannot decide which one has better value. 1080 Ti is more powerful, but 2070 supports things like ray-tracing, and would be more "Future Proof".

I would lean towards the 1080Ti

greater raw performance in current games

and as said above, ray tracing is still a great unknown and seems to perform poorly even on the 2080Ti

At the moment because ray tracing wont be a real thing until 1 or 2 gens later you should be fine with a 1080 TI a good silicon custom one can even beat the RTX 2080 FE  in some games which is odd if you compare the price tags. Its not worth to buy a weaker card for the same price because of ray tracing. It will take time, game devs have to gain experience with it as well as nvidia so it will be a 1 or 2 more iterations until this feature will be well implemented.  And then you would probably buy a new card anyway because your 2 gen old middle class RTX card cant play the games that will come then.

1080ti is a lot more powerful and it has more memory..it's a much better gpu overall

| CPU: Core i7-8700K @ 4.89ghz - 1.21v  Motherboard: Asus ROG STRIX Z370-E GAMING  CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i V2 |
| GPU: MSI RTX 3080Ti Ventus 3X OC  RAM: 32GB T-Force Delta RGB 3066mhz |

1080Ti

Only buy RTX 2.0,....... not this currently shithouse (but good looking) 1.0 RTX "Turing" GPU's.

Wait for NextGen RTX 2.0+ if you want to use RTX and keep framerates feasible for Multiplayer....

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

I'm seeing around $650 as the minimum for decent GTX 1080 Tis USED, whereas RTX 2070s can be had for as low as $500 NEW with a decent aftermarket cooler.

If you're willing to shell out an extra $100 for a used card (unless you can find one cheaper), which would also net you some extra performance, go for the 1080Ti. Otherwise, I'd go with the 2070 as the coolers tend to look nicer than the 10xx cards, and it's newer.

With the 2070, you gain DLSS, Ray Tracing (Which is "terrible" for performance on the current generation of RTX cards), and better power efficiency (175W vs 250W), but lose out on 3GB of VRAM, a smaller memory bus (256bit vs 352bit), slower memory bandwidth (448GB/s vs 484GB/s), and fewer CUDA cores (2304 vs 3584).

I'd go the 1080ti for performance unless it's a used mining one. If that were the case, I'd go with the 2070 for its longer lifespan.
