How do i stop games from being stretched?

GamerForFun

A while ago i got my UW screen (Samsung 34" LED Curved FreeSynC C34F791) and i've been having problems with some games being stretched out making them impossible to play and some just playing nicely and not doing that.

One of the games I've had many problems with is fallout 4 but strangely one of the games that's given me the least amount of trubble is fallout NV. I have a GTX1070Ti as my gpu but i can't see anything in the nvidia control panel to fix it.

Do you guys have any ideas?

Fallout 4 doesnt support ultrawide resolutions out of the box, you have to use mods to get it to work right.

Heres a list of games that support ultrawide resolutions:

Try to find the game files and change the user settings to read only. See if that works.

Change your resolution to default in game settings. Default is generally 16:9 for modern titles.

Main PC:

AMD Ryzen 7 5800X • Noctua NH-D15 • MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk • 2x8GB G.skill Trident Z Neo 3600MHz CL16 • MSI VENTUS 3X GeForce RTX 3070 OC • Samsung 970 Evo 1TB • Samsung 860 Evo 1TB • Cosair iCUE 465X RGB • Corsair RMx 750W (White)

Peripherals/Other:

ASUS VG27AQ • G PRO K/DA • G502 Hero K/DA • G733 K/DA • G840 K/DA • Oculus Quest 2 • Nintendo Switch (Rev. 2)

Laptop (Dell XPS 13):

Intel Core i7-1195G7 • Intel Iris Xe Graphics • 16GB LPDDR4x 4267MHz • 512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD • 13.4" OLED 3.5K InfinityEdge Display (3456x2160, 400nit, touch).

You should have some settings in the video card which will allow you to force a specific resolution and then configure a specific Scaling method, when the game doesn't set that resolution. AMD cards have this ... I could force a particular resolution and set scaling to center, and the game will show up in center of screen at your smaller resolution

See GPU Scaling and Scaling mode: center in the picture below.

If I had your monitor and wanted a game to not stretch and couldn't do it from the game, I'd run the game at 1920x1200 and enable gpu scaling and let the card center the game on TV.

I'd also probably add a custom resolution if it's not already available , 2560x1440 and if the game settings doesn't allow it, I'd enter it manually in fallout4.ini or fallout4Custom.ini or whatever the .ini is that holds the settings

the fallout game engine is dumb and can't really run at anything other than 16:9 or 16:10 and adjusting the POV by more than a few points (ex from the default 80 something to a more not headache giving 90 is fine, anything higher makes game fuck up) will cause visual glitches in the game.

amd_scaling.jpg.62008b138ab20adecc6304a397342d69.jpg

edit: just saw the pictures with the nvidia settings... .so set the output resolution to your monitor/tv's resolution 3440x1440 or whatever that is, enable gpu scaling and set the scaling to none or aspect ratio (but it will look ugly, cause card will zoom the game)

then set the game to 1920x1200 or whatever, and the card should add black bars around the game when running in full screen, or something like that

If you're setting fixed aspect ratio and a 16:9 resolution in Windows, I'd guess the problem may be the monitor doing scaling itself. Check through the options in there.

Main system: i9-7980XE, Asus X299 TUF mark 2, Noctua D15, Corsair Vengeance Pro 3200 3x 16GB 2R, RTX 3070, NZXT E850, GameMax Abyss, Samsung 980 Pro 2TB, Acer Predator XB241YU 24" 1440p 144Hz G-Sync + HP LP2475w 24" 1200p 60Hz wide gamut
Gaming laptop: Lenovo Legion 5, 5800H, RTX 3070, Kingston DDR4 3200C22 2x16GB 2Rx8, Kingston Fury Renegade 1TB + Crucial P1 1TB SSD, 165 Hz IPS 1080p G-Sync Compatible
