rear speakers problem

Hi my problem is that my I have to set the black audio input as rear instead of side every time I restart my pc to get 5.1 correct. Mobo is sabertooth z97 and os is win 10. I dont have this problem in linux. I have tried many drivers even for the newer mobos with no luck.

What I did to trick the system is to set 7.1 and hide the side speakers but when I run the sound test side speakers play from the front speakers.

Even if I cheange from 5.1 to 7.1 and back I have to set the black input as rear. It thins black is side by default.

Any help?

Well your problem is that 5.1 is actually using side speakers and 7.1 side and rears. 

You only have 5.1 so you should position and set them up as sides anyways.

But 5.1 is designed with front, center, rear and sub. So something else is going on. Linux detects it correctly.

No, 5.1 is with sides. 

 

I don't know why you can't manually override though if you have positioned them as rears anyways. maybe you should enable "speaker fill". That might simulate the missing sides in your "7.1"

My brother has 5.1 and the system detects it as rear by default on win 8.1 . My speakers system which is 5.1 says "rear speakers" on the sub woofer. The audio manager in windows shows 2rear speakers in 5.1 configuration and adds 2 side in 7.1 configuration. Linux has no problem. How comes that 5.1 consists of side instead of rear?
