This Video will make you Want to get into Anime (The Graphics!)

Youbetternot

I loved Death Note and Steins Gate and am planning to watch Sword Art Online especially with all this stuff about Oculus Rift Crystal Cove coming out. Also, Titan Fall looks pretty good, but some of the Anime is just plane old weird. I mean, just look at Japanese commercials and you'll understand. There are a few diamond in the roughs, but a lot of anime watching consists of sorting through a pile of un-watchable, childish crap. But that is not to say I don't like anime, I love anime!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Titan Fall a video game?  Do you mean Attack on Titan?

I have watched a bit of anime on Netflix. Don't really like it.

Netflix has really crappy anime on it for the most part. There's a few stand outs though.

Check out Hulu's anime list. It's freaking huge, and it's free to watch.

Soooo...the takeaway from this video was that scenes in anime are highly repetitive/interchangeable?  :P

Although I'll admit, the person did a decent job putting the video together, he/she clearly put in a lot of work.

I've watched most of my life started off watch DBZ and sailor moon on toonami back when I was like 6 or 7

AND SO IT BEGINS!

Just like any other story, an ordinary kid watching anime on Toonami until Missioncode stumbled upon a rock. This wasn't just any ordinary rock, it glowed faintly green.....

Can't be bothered to finish this but for some reason my mind ended up doing a prologue of an anime based on that one sentence....

Console optimisations and how they will effect you | The difference between AMD cores and Intel cores | Memory Bus size and how it effects your VRAM usage |
How much vram do you actually need? | APUs and the future of processing | Projects: SO - here

probably not, I don't think you are missing out on cartoon animation from a society of the most detached human beings I've seen lel

I don't think you understand. What they innately crave (affection, it's a part of our biology), they bring out in anime. ... Just trust me on that one.  Regardless of how detached some of the anime themselves are, ... the feels within some anime man. The feels.

Angel Beats

Attack on Titan

Cowboy Bebop

I mean, I could go on and on about good anime that made me feel a little more human. Like, seriously. I'm not like how you might view Japanese people, but I do know I find it incredibly hard to experience what I define as "true emotion". To be moved by something. To be inspired. Or anything similar. Anime is literally one of the few things in life that can make me feel that way repeatedly.

It's funny. The people who have the hardest time showing that side of themselves (the affection side), actually create content that allows me to experience it myself. Crazy.

You're really missing out. Really.

stereotype much?

Sorta. He's kinda right. I mean, teenagers in Japan don't see a point in relationships anymore. At all. For family. Or for companionship. Casual sex is on the rise. It's the future of a digital, urbanized, and technological world. Their basic societal beliefs don't help that, but still.

I have plenty of Japanese people at my school. I has to deal with modern Japanese culture more than just a stereotype

Vice has done a couple episodes on how basically Japanese have no sense of affection and have commoditized basically every part of a relationship

here's just one of the videos

While I agree with you, I think you should give anime a chance. And don't get me wrong. 50% of it is crap. Of that 50%, there's a split between ecchi sexualized anime (not porn/henta) and anime that is just... stupid. The rest is really good. Really.

It is. It's what I call "one of the classics". One of the anime on Toonami that got me into anime.

The art is very well done for the time. The music is great. The atmosphere of the "world" is very well done. The story is compelling at the end (takes a while to get into).

It's one of the best imo. Some people think it's over rated, but that's true of anything that is generally considered good.

Attack on Titan is considered great AFAIK. Like, 90% of the people who watch it love it.

Angel Beats is more hit or miss. You either like it, or you don't. Great animation, music, and story though. The atmosphere was kind of meh however. But it was enough to not be noticeably bad. Like, if you asked me, I would think back on it and realize I have nothing good to say about it. But nothing bad either.

Other classics for me: Trigun, InuYasha (which was terrible in all honesty, but I enjoyed it at the age of 6), Yu Yu Hakusho, Dragon Ball Z, etc. And any Studio Ghibli movie. They are all master pieces imo.

Trigun

Ghost in the Shell

Gurren Lagaan

Gundam (obviously)

Neon Genesis Evangelion

Again, I could go on.

Maybe I am just elitistic but I don't want more "filthy casuals" watching anime. As soon as "normal people" start watching anime they want to change anything that is not socially acceptable and make it appeal more to a broader audience. Just look at how people reacted to "Recently my sister is unusual".

"Baww it's okaying incest, baww it is okaying pedophilia".

When stuff gets more mainstream, it inevitably becomes more dumbed down and a few companies rise to the top and dictates what is popular and smaller companies stand next to no chance. We would probably never have seen Ararararagi molest his little sister with a toothbrush if anime was mainstream for example, because it's not socially acceptable. They would have to water down the cliches and unethical tropes that got the "hardcore" anime audience interested in the first place.

This is something I actually agree with.

I want the people I know to be interested. I don't want anyone else to though, because of the reasons you gave.

Sometimes, popularization is a bad thing. Actually, most of the time, it is. :|
