I own a Xiaomi with MIUI 10, which is why I've spotted the similarity so quickly...

According to news sources, S9, S9+ and Note 9 wont be getting Pie until Jan/Feb apparently.

I reached out to Samsung Poland to ask about this situation (since Poland is listed as eligible to the beta and I have an eligible device). They told me that Samsung Poland would give a separate statement and that this OneUI beta includes the beta for Android 9 Pie.

EDIT: The OneUI announcement website just appeared on the Polish Samsung website ( https://www.samsung.com/pl/apps/one-ui/ ), however it differs from the global one in one crucial thing. It states that "Registration for the OneUI beta program is unavailable. We will soon release a notice about the start date."

Dammit I've been waiting for the Android Pie to come to the S9 for some time now...

That would mean that the S8/+ and the Note 8 aren't getting Android 9 Pie? Well, that's a bummer for those users since those phones are almost identical to the S9/Note 9 lineup.

Actually, Samsung previously confirmed that both the S8 and Note8 are getting Android Pie.

If the Tom's Guide statement is true, that's unnecessary extra work for Samsung to be creating 2 or more different flavors based on the same Android code base.

IMO it's one or the other, I doubt that Samsung will go to extra lengths to update both lineups to Android Pie, but to leave Samsung Experience on S8/Note8 and give the S9/Note9 the OneUI. This would actually worsen their already terrible updates (in terms of time you have to wait for them)...

What is probably true is the statement that the S8 and Note8 will get Android Pie. It's already publicly announced albeit as part of the fine print.

There's no official announcement as to which other phones will get OneUI. Maybe that spokesperson is wrong or maybe they're right. We don't know yet.

The thing is though, it just doesn't make sense for Samsung to be creating 2 or more drastically different versions of their software based on the same OS baseline. It's unnecessary extra work.

I’d prefer Holo with more of that, but that’s my subjective design taste.

Funny no one's talking about it. It's obvious when you see both UI running. And it gets funnier when you learn that it's not only available for latest Xiaomi phones but also 3-4 years old phones. I'm running it on my redmi note 3... It's like a 3 y/o budget phone and it gets this kind of update Samsung flagships from that time will never get. They might not run on latest Android but still get UI and functionality and security updates.
