Overheating 1080Ti

Hey guys,

 

So literally just installed my new 1080Ti (1080Ti Gaming OC 11G)

 

And temps are hitting 90c+ even going to 100 sometimes.. Something tells me this isn't normal.. That's quite hot..

 

At idle the fans don't spin.. Which i'm guessing is a built in feature but I wasn't expecting the temps to be so high,

 

Just tested on BO4, which was the first game I ran just to check out the fps etc

 

Any help appreciated,thanks..

RMA or return it and get another

temps should be between 70-85 max

That is not normal at all. Do you have afterburner or some other OC'ing program installed?

Nope,nothing all stock

Well if you did I would tell you to mess with your fan curve. Are there any obstacles impeding airflow to the card?

I see plenty of airflow and an AIO on the CPU - something is very amiss with that GPU.

Ok, then this is probably the result of defective thermal paste, which would mean that as Slottr stated earlier you should probably RMA it.

I'm not sure RMA is an option.. I didn't buy it brand new I bought it from somebody.. He said

 

"Hi, I tested before sent it at fur and heaven bench and max it reached was 76c at 3k rez ultra. Any way you may have set manual fan speeds or OC Via tools like msi afterburner etc?"

 

Which obviosly I haven't everything is stock like i mentioned.. only just literally installed nvidia drivers

Open your case and test.

 

Point a fan at it and test. I use a floor fan.

 

The case may be trapping warm air.

Look at his pic, he has intake on front, intake on bottom right below GPU, and an AIO on the CPU - Id be surprised if it was trapped air - in BIOS (that's the key, its not doing anything)

Anybody have any idea what could be the cause? Basically it bumps straight up to 90c as soon as I start a game, and then it stutters every few seconds after being ingame for a few minutes.. what would we put this down to? Bad paste? the seller has accepted a return so i can just get a refund.. but obviously I would rather have it working

have you tried setting your own fan curve?

sometimes default fan curves are not adequate

i use evga's precision software

just guessing here..hoping the issue can be sorted in software

If that is the case try cleaning out your cooler and adjusting the fan curve, and if neither of these help, try taking the cooler off and reapply the thermal paste.

I was thinking about doing this but then the seller would probably try using it against me when it came to returning so I’ve decided to return it instead, my refund is due in about a week... 

 

can an anybody recommend a good card similar to this one that I won’t have any problems with?
