Vinyl desk wrap

Fuzzleworth1

So as you can see in picture 1 the vinyl wrap on my desk is peeling and I plan on rewrapping it. Should I do it in matte white to match the set up, or do I do it in fake carbon fiber?

The carbon fiber material I find looks tacky if over used, small accents or trim details tend to work best for it. I would recommend to use something like a matte or satin vinyl material or to strip off the fake wood grain as it looks to be solid wood underneath and to just refinish that.

Not saying your wrong about the carbon fiber, but I've seen a full carbon fiber car and it looks really good, but, this is not a car so I see what your saying. And I do plan on stripping the old vinyl off.

See if it's solid wood first, if so little bit of sanding and some wipe on poly may just be easier than anything else. Wierd why they would cover solid wood with a fake wood grain...

In that case a vinyl wrap probably is the quickest solution unless you want to go through the process of sealing (priming) and painting MDF.

I don't really want to prime and seal as it would take to long and I need my computer for school, and would using car vinyl wrap work?

Yeah car vinyl will work as long as the surface is very smooth and clean for it to properly stick to. If it's fuzzy or has unsealed edges it may have some trouble adhering and may need a little work beforehand.

I'd cut the material a good 3-4 inches larger and fully wrap it underneath to ensure that the edges don't peel at all, also a bit of heat from a hair dryer can help with contours at the edges.

I'll make sure to give a good sanding. Thanks

It turned out really good! The only thing is since I did it on mdf, it had a hard time sticking to the bottom after I was done.

How do I remedy that?

I think I heat it up to much so it lost the adhesive, but what I did was staple it to the bottom because I didn't care (it was on the bottom?‍♂️)
