Samsung 850 Evo 1tb SSD in 2018?

I may be able to purchase a Samsung 850 Evo 1tb SSD for around $150 Canadian. Is that a good value? The Samsung 860 evo 1tb is going for around $225 Canadian. Is that a better buy?

 

Thanks in advance for any opinions or advice...

They're basically the same drive. Both reach SATA bus limits in terms of transfer speed. $150 is good. I can't speak for buying a used SSD, if that's what you're doing, but it's pretty hard to mess up solid state (much more than a spinning disk that is)

Incredible drive. I have 3 850 EVOs, never had an issue with any of them.

Store could be clearing out the stock of the older 850 models. Makes sense why it would be cheaper than the 860. There's also recently been a huge drop in SSD prices, so the 850 could be dropping earlier/faster than the 860.
The 850 evo seems like a pretty good deal. If you're in the market for a 1TB SSD then you should grab it.

If you're interested in buying it, I'd recommend grabbing it while you can...

Late last night when I was in bed checking my Google News feed I saw a notice that there was a store selling the 500GB 970 evo for $130 AUD (USD$94) and I thought it was a pretty good deal, but I wanted to browse a few other stores before ordering to see if the sale was just at that one store (umart) or if other retailers were dropping prices as well, but was late so I couldn't be bothered getting out of bed to jump on the computer to properly check.
Woke up this morning and checked it again and they were all sold out. :(

Yeah, the 850 EVO sale is for in-store purchases only.  Hopefully I can make it to the store near my place in the next couple days before they run out of stock... They are only showing 2 at that location...

Give them a call and ask them to put one aside for you. Since it's on special and they're low on stock they might not hold it for long (or at all), but they might be willing to hold it for a day or two for you.

The 860s aren't much, if any, faster than the 850s but the 860's TBW is much higher. I would go for the 860.
