Computer Upgrade for programming and editing

Recommended Posts

Posted · Original PosterOP

Hi everyone

I am currently planning on upgrading my computer this December or early next year. I am mostly using my computer for programming/coding and image editing.

My current build is/was mainly focused on gaming, but since I have started to work a lot with editing and programming, that is my new main focus.

Current build:

CPU: i5-6600k

GPU: MSI R9 390x 8gb

16 gb ddr 4 ~2100 mhz.

Boot/application drive: Samsung 850 evo 500 gb ssd

Storage/work files drive: WD Blue 1tb

If you need other specs, just let me know. I just think these are the most important? Correct me if I am wrong ;)

I was thinking about upgrading my CPU/Motherboard and maybe upgrading to 32 gb 3200 mhz ram.

What should I upgrade and to what?

Thanks!

if your going to do both, id go 8700k/z370. Can easily get a used z370 board for a good price, and 8700k too. You wont need 32 GB of ram honestly, Image editing doesnt take THAT much ram unless your working on massive resolutions

Cool. The images are 24 MP. I will take a look at it. Thank you!

for editing a better gpu for acceleration would be nice. but that cpu/mobo idea is really good. if you get it second hand at least. if you can wait for a while, the zen 2 chips are comming next year
