what is better high resolution or higher refresh rates?

I am getitng a 2080 Ti and i'm wondering what monitor would be best for it.
i wanted 4k at first but then i thought maybe it would be better to get a monitor with better refresh rates.
what do you guys think is better?

For a 2080 Ti I'd defo go 4K, for 1080p and even 1440p it'll be overkill, a 1080 Ti can handle 1440p 144Hz fine.

Depends on personal preference, like what games you play.

For myself for example; I don't really play any of the competitive games so don't have a need for the high refresh rate, but would much rather have a 4K panel for the 'beautiful looking games' (plus it's convenient for the other stuff I do on my PC).

what about if i stream and play both games that look nice and competitive games and want to stream them too?

Neither, both reach a diminishing return point, I would rather have something like 1440p@120Hz to enjoy both worlds instead of 1080p@144Hz+ or 4k@60Hz.

I would consider the Acer Predator X34P, Z35 or similars, ultrawide is pretty great.

 

I would look for:

IPS panel

G-Sync

1440p ultrawide

100Hz+

 

And maybe some other features, but these are the main ones.

I have the X34P and I can say, it is a very good monitor, but IPS does decrease color vibrancy a small bit, and it really isn't needed unless you view it at weird angles.

Thats one opinion. For me, wo works much and games less 4k is more important. I can't notice 144Hz that much compared to 60 nice to have but yeah. 4k on the other hand opens my eyes to how beautiful games can be

Really? Didn't expect that, but what are you comparing it to? I usually think of IPS as better color performance.

True, that's why I said it's what I would do. But I think 1440p ultrawide is pretty close to 4k panels pixel density.

nah dude, IPS looks much more rich compared to a classical TN panel. Also vexing angels are worlds better

A single 2080 Ti won't handle AAA games on ultra above 100fps on 4k ultrawide, for a 60Hz panel, sure, but won't handle high refresh rate. The 2080 Ti rarely gets to the 120-144Hz range in AAA games on 4k, let alone 4k ultrawide.

As said above, it's kind of personal. A 4k@60Hz panel won't be great for competitive or faster paced games, a 1080p@144Hz+ won't look nearly as nice, while a 1440p ultrawide 100Hz+ will be kind of a jack of all trades IMO, won't look as good as a 4k and won't be as fast as a 1080p, but will be much faster than a 4k and look worlds better than a 1080p. It depends on what you want, what you'll use it for, what games you like to play, if you don't want to go with the "middle choice".

This is a good cheaper option. Although it doesn't matter much for high refresh rate (100Hz+), Gsync would be a nice addition. And this monitor is only 75Hz. Monitors can get pretty brutally expensive, so it also depends on budget, because it can easily get to US$1k or higher.

yeah I think 75hz is at least better than 60. And honestly enough for normal gaming.

True, although my cheapo LG didn't seem much different from 60Hz to 75Hz when I tested it, I'll only use it at 75Hz when I upgrade my GPU, so I'm not sure how much difference it really makes.

everything helps (at least for the pice of mind :D) but yeah like I said most pople are fine with 60FPS gaming.

MR. OP: get a Gsyc display and our whole discussion about fps will not matter :;D

I think you should go higher resolution, 3440x1440p. This is the same resolution as my monitor, which I run at 60Hz with a GTX 970, so the 2080 Ti will be overkill for it, I think.

If you have infinite money get the 4k 144hz gsync monitor (2000+$)

If you dont,

get either 3440x1440p x34 120hz gsync ips (900$)

or 2560x1440p 144hz gsync display (600-900$).

Or 3440x1440p 100hz samsung (600$)
