>Install retroPI

>Get some SNES USB controller that will probably be mediocre

>Get some ROMs that you obtained in a 101% legal way

>Boom, you created a console.

Seriously though, what are you looking to do.. Are you asking for directions or merely pronouncing what you are doing?

so you want like a SFX gaming rig? or are you out to make something like an xbox? because im pretty sure the latter isnt going to happen tbh

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

I'm a little confused, so you want to make a consle with PC parts? Or do you just want to build a PC and start PC gaming.

@mxk. I think he wants basically,  the steamOS in small form factor, with only the hardware drivers and steam client running (possibly in large screen display)

current main system: as of 1st Jan 2023

motherboard : Gigabyte B450M DS3H V2

CPU: Ryzen 5 3600

ram : 16Gig Corsair Vengeance 3600mhz

OS :multi-boot

Video Card : RX 550 4 GIG

Monitor: BENQ 21 inch

the idea itself is doable, but not if he is thinking inside one of those TV Media Boxes which is what that embedded thing is for.

for longevity hardware wise, you would need:

ability to put a minimum 8G Graphics Card

i would suggest minimum 16G ram (but i like to over speck so i would probably go with 32G)

maybe an extra USB hub or 2 for all the junk like vr, keyboard, mouse, controllers etc.

plus 2 hard drives

software wise:

i would say something like:

Debian/Devuan / Slackware / Arch / Gentoo Core system

specific hardware drivers (so you would want to make sure they are fully supported first).

and either a Lamp or WebGUI pkg customised depending what you were going to run ie kodi +/or emulator sets +/or steam big screen.
